went to see Sir Paul McCartney yesterday. almost 3 hours. unbelievable stuff. honestly, blown away, and not just because of stuff like this ;)

even more impressive is how he actually rarely needed extras like that. tight band, great music, no fancy add-ons.

Wow, I didn't think Macca still had it in him. Sounds like a great show!

When was the last time Sir Paul wrote a decent song? Probably has a lot of them but they don't get huge publicity because of his "back catalogue..."

he did a couple of the newer songs. not bad, but how you're gonna follow up the stuff he's done? just like you say, with a back catalogue like that, it's hard to get anyone excited over a new song. as good and as catchy as it may be, when you follow it up with "Hey Jude", noone's gonna remember it, really.

as for the show - yeah, i'd say he still delivers. it took a while til the crowd really caught on thoroughly, as the Happel Stadion is not a great place for music... but musically, they were really great, and by the second half, everybody was having a Great time. a real feel-good show.

(quoting myself so that you don't have to go back a page to get the clip ;) )

Move On Up, If There's A Hell Below (We're All Gonna Go), Freddie's Dead, Pusherman, Keep On Pushin', People Get Ready, Diamond in the Rough and Superfly.
Of course, those of you old enough to remember will know I've been tuned in to the great funk-soul master, Curtis Mayfield, these last days. Wasn't he simply fabulous? May he rest in peace.

Just good to hear we've got some Curtis and Isaac fans here at the frontier. And now I leave y'all with "... You may not drive, a great big Cadillac ... Gangster whitewalls, TV antennas in the back.
You may not have ... A car at all. But remember, brothers and sisters, you can still stand tall.
Just be thankful, for all you got ..."

Isn't he more into composing classical music these days as opposed to pop? He's done some pop/rock albums in recent decades as well but like so many of his contemporaries his past is so impressive that his present will never be able to compete with that. If tomorrow they come up with a "new" Beatles album that consists of third rate bootleg stuff it would get more publicity and sell better than a perfectly decent album of new material from Paul. Problem is also the radio formats these days. Kiddie top 40 radio refuses to play music from a 70 year old and the classic rock stations where these artists would fit in perfectly are only interested in playing Stairway to Heaven, Jumpin' Jack Flash and Bohemian Rhapsody 24/7. So even when the oldies come up with something new that's good they can't promote it properly.

Time for something a bit more uptempo. If only my gym didn't play crap music. I need beaty heavy stuff for lifting weights to.

Sadly, JJ Cale died yesterday. Any fans? He was a great, great songwriter. (You'll know "Cocaine" and "After Midnight," amongst others. Covered by a lot of greats.) I offer this sweet one with him playing and singing.

I've played every instrument known to man, lol, but my favorite instrument is my voice. I'm a Soprano II and I've been singing my whole life (family choirs, school, church, special events etc). Music rules my life  dance songs to love songs!!

I love all music, but I'm definitely an old school R&B'er. Check out The Gap Band with Charlie Wilson's Outstanding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atnNTeGfKm8

Now, check out the updated version with Justin Timberlake and Snoop Dog:

Now that's a serious dance song!!

I'll add more as the groove fills me

Actually, that is a Curtis Mayfield tune from the Superfly LP.

Wow, a soprano on board! Is there a particular operatic singer--male or female--you really enjoy listening to? Do you prefer someone like Sutherland, Callas or Caballe over Fleming, Kiri Te Kanawa or Gheorghiu? Who got you into singing opera in the first place?

I sang opera in middle school, following in the footsteps of Jessie Norman. As I developed tho, I went from a Soprano I to a Soprano II and R&B crept in. I still listen to it some, but not very often. I sing a lot of church songs tho. As a matter of fact, I have a church solo coming up the second Sunday in August. It's Kid's Day and they want me to help out. Should be fun .. tears all around ;) hooting and hollering and somebody falling out, lol. It's a Baptist church!!

Ah, Jesse Norman--quite a star singer. Keep up the good work, singing in honor of the LORD. I think I will start rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves! :)

Here's a perfect example of a soprano's version of R&B meets gospel. My voice isn't this squeeky tho:

Deniece Williams' Silly!!
