I just think it's a short term thing JLLB. He's relaxed a little after achieving his lifelong ambition. I think he'll be back firing on all cylinders again next year.

I agree it's a short-term flag. Post-Wimbledon was a lot of distraction, and defending the USO was a lot of pressure, and points to defend. I think he gets back on track after this.

did I mention that I am not happy with the clay warrior?

CD, forgive me but I don't read all your posts, so I don't understand why you're not happy with Rafa.

To me, he's made some of the most intelligent choices in scheduling that I can remember. His comeback had few difficulties and even fewer losses. Not only did he win the French Open, but he is undefeated on cement this year. I'm pretty sure the number of fans who thought that would happen can be counted on one hand.

Wimbledon? Wouldn't you agree the first week is when he's most vulnerable to upset. Even in the years he made it to the finals, he still had hiccups during week one.

Other than the losses in MC and Wimbledon, why are you unhappy with him?

I will elaborate/elucidate/expound on this tomorrow since you ask so kindly and respectfully.

you may have to remind me.

there is always a method to my madness.

Doesn't happen often that GS semis are just a way to spend time but now I'm waiting for the 2020 Olympic host city announcement. Tokyo and Istanbul on 2nd voting round, Tokyo got most votes on the 1st round. Hopefully Tokyo will get the games.

I guess Spain got knocked out in the first round. I'd also like Tokyo to get the games.

I am not happy with him because he got a little too complacent after the end of 2010.

he allowed his game and fitness take a hit and it cost him big time in 2011.

he would go on to lose 7 finals to nole.

I have taken a close look at those losses: one of the biggest reasons he lost them was because he kept running out of gas.

nole is not better than nadal. nole just happens to have the edge over nadal on the hard courts in the best of 3 sets foremat but a few others have had that edge too. roger also has been able to handle nadal on the hard courts in the best of 3 sets foremats. especially the indoor hard courts.

anyway that dropped fitness had a multiplier effect: it caused him to lose all those finals which, in turn, dented his confidence.

nadal ran out of steam in indian wells and then again in Miami in 2011. he also hit the wall after fighting so hard to win the 3rd set at the u.s. open in 2011. I mean he was left with zero gas and could not go anymore. nole smashed him in the 4th set.

well you get the idea.

I am also not happy with him because he keeps compounding the knee issue by practicing and playing a little too much on the hard courts.

now this infatuation with the hard courts needs to end after he takes the u.s. open on Monday.

otherwise sooner or later he will be on the sidelines again for an extended period. in fact compounded knee issues could end his career.

he has a 3-4 years left on the tour. why not try to protect those years.

he has probably left as many as 5 slams on the table.

Thanks Clay Death. I understand now that you were looking over the past few years rather than just this year. I can also see your points. At different times I've wondered about some of the choices that were made.

As many as 5 slams left on the table? I don't know. One thing though, the game was sure empty without him in the tournaments last year. I know not everyone likes the way he hits the ball, but I do. And I like the way he fights even more.

Thanks again.

Can someone explain this to me? A polish tennis site had problems with the sponsors and stuff and the article writer mentioned that some gambling programs are forbidden by polish law :s I don't know anything about gambling and internet laws so why can this affect the site? i guess not bec of the hosting cause if it had a polish host they could move the whole website to a new non-polish hosting service, is it cause of the polish owners or bec the site was copyrighted in poland????? anyone delved into this?

My impression of their explanation is that they haven't been able to find advertisers other than the gambling sites, which are now forbidden under Polish law. They must have essentially had one advertiser -- some Polish gambling site -- and now they have no one, so they're going out of business. Again, that's just my impression, so I could be wrong.
I know the site you are referring to, it is the Tennis Alternative, and I know the person who ran it. In fact I contributed a couple of articles to the site earlier this year. Owner could not get sufficient backing to support the site any longer, after about 5 years of trying. You are correct in the fact about they had just one advertiser, providing very limited resources to the site, thus the end came about three months ago.

well the sport really needs the clay warrior and the great swiss assassin.

the sport of tennis is simply better and far bigger with both of them around.

congrats to both champions and their fans. they are both champions of the highest order.

I thought the match was fairly high quality.

nole`s movement is off the charts. I have never ever seen anyone move as well as he does.

and his return of serve is from another world. he gives you damn near nothing.

every ball comes back with interest.
