I'm a bigger Union fan because I'm from Wales originally and it's the national sport. Hope some of those matches included the welsh run to the semi-finals August!

In Queensland, Australia where I live now, Rugby League is king, but Union is still well represented -The Queensland Reds play in the Super Rugby tournament and get about 35,000 each game.

I'm afraid I missed Wales' matches. I didn't watch too many matches, the final and a few earlier matches. I was happy NZ as the hosts won the title.

Wales lost 9-8 to France in the semi.

We had a man sent off after 17 minutes and played most of the match with 14 men.

I watch some Slasher. I followed Widnes in the UK and the Titans in the NRL. I prefer Union to League, but enjoy watching both.

Who's your team?

I'm a fan of Canterbury Bulldogs.:D

And that would be a rival in the annual State of Origin to New South Wales.:p

Hooooh. Good to be back in the bar. I have a figurative whiskey in my hand and am ready for good chat. I will be back with a real drink tonight. If any of the newbies to the bar thread want a good laugh, check out kieran's description of the front page picture.

Well Britbox, I have Welsh blood in me, my father was born in Swansea. I was born in London, lived in Brighton for four years, before emigrating to Canada in 1956, but follow football more than rugger. Have friends in Wrexham, Portsmouth(own a little piece of the club) both those clubs are community owned. Whether Pompey ever get back to where they once were is anyone's guess, but hope is eternal. So, tennis, football, ice hockey of course being Canadian are high passions, I am a total Boston Bruins supporter and I am a Red Sox Nation member too, with a number of friends in Boston.
There is a bit of my sports background, have broadcast over 400 ice hockey games, two for the Vancouver Canucks, interviewed numerous sports personalities during my career in the media(radio, tv and print). Main job as I mentioned to you is in advertising sales for our paper, and of course I write a tennis column once a month from March-September. Where I live on Vancouver Island, we have the only grass court club in Canada, the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis club, so there is a considerable amount of tennis interest in the region.:)

Well, I'm here and hope the others will stop by too. :)

As I said many times before, I don't really have much time for posting but I will surely check out what is going on in here every once in a while.

Hi Nikki hi Betty, I hope Emma shows up too when she's digested the drama...... one of her hands is still here after all;):p

This community will work great btw when we know each other a bit more, have some good stories and adventures that we lived together, when people get less shy and get on skype or play some online computer games together, those things forge a community, ofc the beginning is always hard when someone starts a new board....... it was lots of fun for example when Betty learned to get SoF2 from the net and then she installed it with an emulator, learned all the settings and cvars :p and then the gaming itself :D getting owned by the pros or owning some tot newbs, making funny screenshots......... as time passes we will have experiences like these with the board members here and then the fun will really start..........

This board has tons of potential, the tech support is outstanding, tbh I haven't seen so many technical issues fixed so quickly, not even on MTF where they have a whole team of coders.... I'm sure lurkers with any brains see this and will want to be part of a nice and clean place like this, to talk tennis, ask for computer help or just for casual chat...........

I saw Kieran's post before it's very funny, I liked his other posts too, I'm looking forward to reading more from him:D

anyway I go to sleep now, have fun guys and cu soon:wave

Nice to see you in the bar Ruby. First drink is on the house.

Good to see you come from thoroughbred welsh stock. My maternal grandfather was born in Swansea, my mother was from the valleys, but I'm a Cardiff boy originally.

You've got a pretty storied sports background. When you mention broadcast, Do you mean that you do the commentary on the ice hockey matches?

Robredo decided to correct some of his generation's faults and show that he can beat Federer at least once in his career.:D

I'm glad when surprises do occur, although I'm not counting this as a surprise, since Federer's victories here were to me like an empty shell.

State of Origin trumps all in NSW as well, Brit. I've got a friend there with whom I watch State of Origin every year (well, starting last year to be honest, when he made me a fan of NRL).:D

I'm a YES on Red Sox Nation, (rather surprisingly, I suppose,) and how lovely for you that you live on Vancouver Island. Meant to be beautiful. I've spent months in Vancouver, the capital, which is a fantastic city, but never got over there.

PS: It's POURING with rain in NYC at the moment. I hope that means it's getting it out of its system.

Yes, that is correct did the play by play of over 400 junior a hockey games mostly with our team here the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BC junior hockey league. I have also interviewed many NHL players as well, especially from Vancouver.

Today's big news in Finland is that Microsoft buys Nokia's phone business. Maybe it would've been impoossible for Nokia to make their phone business profitable so maybe it was better to sell it. But sad that Finnish businesses are bought by foreign companies.

And this ended my brand loyalty for Nokia. Even though I don't know which is the smallest evil: Apple, Google, or MS. Maybe I'll switch back to my old Nokia 6230i after my current Nokia C6-01 is finished.

Nokia missed the first boat on the smartphones and then persisted with that Symbian OS. They should have switched over to Android about 4 years ago.

Shame when a big local company gets gobbled up by bigger ones overseas. I guess lots of jobs will be lost.

They've promised to keep jobs in Finland but I'm afraid they'll soon move jobs aboard. Finland isn't the cheapest country when it comes to labour force.

And Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop, a former Microsoft guy, seems to have been at Nokia only to sell it to MS. And he's rumoured to be a strong candidate to become a future MS CEO. Well, he did great job for MS, analysts have said MS bought Nokia's phones at a cheap price.

And sad that a famous Finnish conumer brand gets lost. I think Nokia as a famous consimer brand has done a lot of good for the image of Finland. Now they become a B2B company manufacturing mobile networks.

Sad but true mate. Those jobs won't be in Finland long.

It's sad to see iconic brands swallowed up. I remember in the UK when Kraft foods bought Cadburys (chocolate)... load of rubbish about keeping jobs locally and they moved them away the first chance they got.
