What old, 29 years old? last year playing so bad been still 28? then Federer is methuselah and look he is still #2.....

Roger is #3, ranked below the likes of Murray. He has lost a lot of his movement and all around physicality but unlike Nadal he has a lot more than just physicality to rely on.

The only thing he has more (better) than Nadal is the serve, without it he wouldn't have won half of the matches he has won

Roger is far fitter and far more focused on winning than Rafa.

Roger also puts in the hard yards in the gym.

Rafa's only weapon is his forehand sweetheart and the main reason it's no longer as effective is due to his loss of muscle over the years. Rafa doesn't move as well as he used to so he is not able to run down every ball imaginable anymore and that affects the forehand too. Aside from that he is still a very good defensive player, othwrwise he'd be struggling to remain in the top 20.

Roger on the other hand has a lot of weapons and he needs to use them because he isn't winning any battles of attrition against the top guys anymore. He has stayed relevant through his attacking game. It certainly isn't due to his movement and defensive abilities which have naturally gone down big time at this point.

Rafa has used his strong mental strength from years at the top in tennis to steadily improve his Poker and might be a serious threat to the world's best poker players when he hangs up his racquet.
Watch him compete in a Live Poker game in Prague against some of the world's star athletes and the #1 Poker player in the world in this interesting video.

Rafa has fallen physically, but one can see his mentality is still strong.
In Poker one must play the right way with good cards and bad. But one has a much better chance when holding good cards.
In tennis, it is a big advantage to have a physical advantage, knowing you can compete at a high level for hours without tiring as much as the opponent.
Then it is a matter of being patient and using the strategy to both tire the opponent and strike hard when you get the opportunities.

It's like a poker player who is patient, doesn't overplay when not having the best hands, hangs in there, but when one gets good cards, presses the advantage and strikes.
And yes, it never hurts to have a little luck on your side.

Respectfully,
masterclass

djokovic works the hardest and is the most focused. so naturally he will take every single title that is in front of him.

laser like focus + maximum drive + immense hunger + constant and daily work on supreme fitness + endless hours on the practice courts + wisdom to constantly improve = Djokovic = 2-3 losses at best for all of 2016.

his dad is right. he will get 10 more slams. who the hell can stop him.

Rafa is irrelevant. Andy does not have a forehand and Roger is 50 years old.

and still djokovic cant stop working on his game and his fitness.

Rafa can learn a lot from djokovic, Federer, and serena but he does not care to. he called it a career nearly 2 years ago.

even the gods cant help Rafa. he does not want to be helped. he said he is doing just fine.

You forgot the talent.
Talent comes in many forms, and Nadal has loads of it. His strengths are different from Roger's, but they have been very potent.

I see moxie is taking her blind worship to new levels.

I never said that Rafa hadn't lost a step or that he wasn't playing as well. I've only said to you that I think he works harder than you claim. Don't bang me in with Carol, who actually does blindly worship. However, I'd be interested if you have a link to Luke Jensen's statements.

Talent? it's impossible to win 14 GS, multiples MS and also beaten many times the "suppose GOAT " without talent. And of course I don't blindly worship like Moxie says, I say what it is, fact!
And talking about "blindly" I don't have any idea what kind of tennis you are watching to talk that way

Rafa has talent on loan from the gods. well said Carol.

moxie just cant blindly stop worshipping some of these players. she cant even do her own research.

luke Jensen doesn't have to say a damn thing. we can all see with our own eyes.

Rafa is just a shadow of what he used to be. the man cant even take a 250 level event or a 500 level event for that matter. and that is on clay.

it is what it is. our player just don't feel like making he sacrifices he once made to be an all time great.

nalbandian is clear enough but sure enough moxie wont know about it because she is too lazy to do her own research. nalby said very clearly that it is clay or the exit for rafa. he has to work it all out on clay in order to be competitive again.

or worse, she reads the same remarks and sees the same things I see. she just cant handle the reality on the ground.

luke Jensen also said that he saw verdasco working like a dog in the gym in new delhi while rafa was content to fart around. he said verdasco was working harder and longer than ever before in the gym.

so now you know why verdasco hit winners from all over the court in the same heat that rafa had to play in also in Melbourne.

verdasco is not exactly young anymore but realizes the value of weight training and fitness.

it is all about fitness and physicality for Rafa. he is nothing without it. he cant fight them for long without it.

may win a match here and there but he cant go the distance at any event. he gets worn out and even tells you that is worn out and yet nobody listens.

rafa's game is very heavily dependent on supreme fitness and physicality.

Believe or not Rafa is working to recovery his game and obviously is improving but he needs to work more with his head, then he will have more control and less nerves in the crucial points and will be able to win. Maybe Miami will be his total "cure" and help to do a great clay season again, we'll see but like I've read and heard of many tennis followers, tennis needs Nadal and also better game of others players

the sport of tennis does need Rafa back to being competitive again.

he is the most popular tennis player on the planet. he is good for the sport. he just needs to put in the long hard yards required to be competitive again.

He isn't the most popular. That's Roger by a long shot but tennis will be fine without them. The sport moves on and there will always be someone else.

I agree you can't say that Rafa is the most popular, but neither can you say Roger is "by a long shot." Rafa does better on social media. A little better on Facebook, but 2:1 on Twitter. Both are very popular in the stadiums, and both sell a lot of tickets. Tennis will survive when they're gone, but it will be looking for another rivalry, and guys that are box office like they are. Even Djokovic will be near-done when they hang 'em up, so the men's game will be looking for stars that can captivate internationally. I think there will be an interest-vacuum in a couple of years unless legitimate stars come up in the next 2 years. Once the big 4 are past their prime or out, which is all coming fast, and with most of the rest of the best aging out, as well, there need to be some real stars emerging, or we will lose viewers and revenue, for a while.

nobody fills the stadiums like Rafa.

they all want to catch a glimpse of him.

in his prime he was the steph curry of tennis: he made the impossible shots possible.
he had the speed of the fastest cornerbacks in the NFL.

he had superhuman strength and the endurance of an elite tour de france cyclist.

now he is just a hapless mosquito that can be swatted aside by the top guns of the sport.

but the world still wants to catch a glimpse of him.

globally one of the most popular ever even now in his 50's.

Rafa too will be worth over $1 billion in a few years
