You are cherry picking reviews. The critical reception is overall very good
88% fresh on rotten tomatoes. I also didn't by any means say you should enjoy a horror movie for the heck of it. I said that the things you bring up aren't the point of the film. They are litigious. The "plot holes" are minor in the context of what the film is about (which is people!).
You also have an extremely strong opinion about a movie you can't even remember very well, thus having to resort to other people's opinions.
Sorry but I wasn't cherry picking. The reason why I brought this up initially was because I was mainly rehashing a memory where another forum owner who also happens to be a Brit and liked this film just as much (perhaps the fact that it's a British production makes it swing that way) and I thought it was uncanny to see it in Britbox's list too.
Second, the reason why I posted those reviews is because britbox had asked for the flaws I'd mentioned and since I couldn't remember the details as I saw the movie a long time ago, I had gone and posted some others' reviews and no other particular reason (though those did bring back memories). And the reason why I didn't remember the details is because, frankly, it was a very forgettable movie. I just remembered the essentials.
I know what kind of rating this movie has both on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, doesn't mean it's an excellent movie when everyone, at the end of the day, is giving their personal opinion as did I. Those reviews and my own opinion are in the minority no doubt but why should they not be taking into account? More importantly, IMDB has the tendency to rate some of the bad films quite high and some of the really good movies really low, so that rating itself isn't perfect. At Rotten Tomatoes, they have 30 movies sitting with 100% rating and that's just absurd.
Also, at IMDB a movie like Inception, which I thought was another bad/flawed film, is sitting with 8.8 rating while a movie like 2001: A Space Odyssey or Stalker is siting with a lower rating than the former. So while ratings look all dandy and positive for these movies, they don't always tell the true as most of it are based on personal opinions. Most people watch for entertainment purpose anyway so I doubt they'll be very thorough.
In any case, 28 Days Later is not even listed in the top 250 movies at IMDB as good as people think it is.
