bottom line: they let the castle fail there. we did not fail because we did what we said we were going to do.

nobody gave a damn about the castle. the locals went out of their damn way to make sure that they not only avoided the castle, they actually trashed it behind the scenes.

that is not going to happen here. its completely different. different players and different ball game. and somebody that really cares.

baron britbox supports the castle with all his heart and so does general tented. that is enough to build on.

and then I cant really do much without the support of folks like general nekro, general masterclass, general slasher, general ashwin, general lugburz, general august, general sid, lady emma, lady marchioness, lady moxie, lady betty, duchess dj and the like either. I know I am forgetting some names here.

we basically have a chance to rebuild the castle mystique that was mistreated, allowed to be abused, and lost at the other forum. this is a chance to add to the legend of the castle.

this forum has produced more growth in 5 months than some forums do in 13 years.

and lets not forget that the castle is just a few days old here.

as for the more gadgets for the forum and other additional exciting features, I think we should keep building one step at a time.

it is just too hard to start a forum from scratch. it requires an immense amount of time and commitment.

I believe tennis frontier is the best game in town. we need to play it and enjoy it.

growth will come if we do the right thing 100% of the time if the locals make a little bit of time to meet and greet 100% of the people that stop by.

we DO NOT GO BACK TO THE PLACES WHERE NOBODY GIVES A DAMN ABOUT US. nobody does.

we simply must make the time to say hello to every single person that stops by this forum.

castle is a good place to go and welcome that person. it takes less than 3 seconds to go and say hello to somebody. if you cant do that then maybe you don't really belong on a forum.

I mean what good are you if you don't care to interact with the others and if you don't care to grow your own forum. talk is cheap. show somebody that you care and watch the ripple effect. or being an economist, I should say watch the "multiplier effect".

chat threads is a good place to get somebody to open up a little bit. they are all looking for a place to belong to. so make it comfortable and fun for them to belong to your place.
and once they are comfortable, they spread their wings a little bit and start exploring the rest of the forum.

Hi herc, so why are we discussing this again? Any problem? I really like it here. It doesn't need to grow overnight but it will grow I am sure. It's already growing in good speed. We should welcome all no matter what as long as they remain civil. I have put all my trust in Brit, Tented the mods etc.so I believe they'll do a great job going forward. And if this forum needs upgrade of any sort then clearly they are perfectly willing to listen.

I am just not that kind of girl. Wedding is not a big deal to me and I hate too much attention. But of course never say never. It's a very nice thought though.

You too should get married at a castle too since you like the idea of castles so much. :p

well general nekro was thinking about firing up something at that other forum that we left far behind.

they just don't care about us there and they failed the castle. I don't think we need to give them another chance.

I think we can grow here just fine. as I have suggested, we need a place where we can grow freely and where people care.

we need to rebuild that castle mystique and the castle legend again and I think it can happen here. we have it already at mtf. now we can have it here too.

and then we will worry about bigger empires or wider horizons down the road. right now is only the time to rebuild the magic and mystique.

baron cares about us. that is enough for me. that works for me.

I am never going back to that forum in this lifetime or MW for that matter. If this forum stays then that's good; if not, I will just stop posting on the forum. It's not a big deal for me.

Some of the posters at T4U have become very cynical for my taste and I don't care for that anymore. No matter who they aim it's still very primitive, immature and disgusting.

You know people say love is blind; I say hate is blinder than love. I've seen people hating someone for very silly reasons with passion for months, years etc. And sometimes they hate for no reason. It doesn't say much about them, really. I wish some people would became more aware of their own antics/actions and the irony they create every day as a result.

It's cool that you'd been to Karachi, herc. I haven't gone back since I'd left and the chances of revising are zero. it's too hot, too busy and too crowded.

I cant believe for the life of me what sid sees in that place. that place is not for him.

alex shit on him for a week. he even called sid`s player a 100 names.

babbs and monster have been insulting the hell out of him for years.

sid even sent me a pm there and said he was done with that place forever and ever a while back and yet he went right back. babbs and monster were tearing into him nonstop and he got angry. well who would not get angry?

bottom line: if they hurt you, insult you, attack you then you move on. life is too damn short to put up with that nonsense. you go where you cared for and respected.

Anyway Castle nobles. I will have to love you and leave you. It's midnight here and Even barons need some sleep sometimes and a busy day is on the horizon tomorrow.

Night all!

All this time I'd thought you're a Brit. You're an Australian then?

Emma, I am a brit, but moved out to Oz last year. Where do you hail from?

Oh, so you are a Brit and I was right all along. It turns out I've exchanged posts with Brits the most. I don't know what kind of coincidence is that. Anyway, are you going to be in Australia from now on or is it a temp visit?

I originally hail from Karachi, Pakistan as I was born there but I sort of grew up in Savannah, Georgia (USA) and rest in Toronto, Canada. I am a proud citizen and love my country Canada to bits and pieces. :)

And Delpo wins. Bad, bad Tomic.

You were right along! I emigrated to Oz last year and plan on staying here.

So you're both Canadian and a Citizen of the world.... cool.

I think the Brits, Aussies and Canadians generally understand each other well, so probably no coincidence.

I like the format where only last post gets quoted. It keeps things very neat. That would be my wish and not get the prompt thank you message when you quote a post or preview your own post. It makes things quicker.

Okay, I guess good night to you all good and lovely people. I am not going to bed immediately as I'll be doing some listening tonight. I'll be listening to this great theoretical physicist who'll be talking about the intelligent and unique Universe. Did you know that things don't materialize until the Observer looks at them? They remain as wave functions and as possibilities. Now the question is, who is this Observer? Is it us or is it something much greater than us? And what is Consciousness? Some say it is to be aware of the fact that you are aware of your own existence, but one particular Physicist will tell you, consciousness means 'to know with' or with which we know. Does this mean Consciousness is the Observer then? Mind before matter? What was before the Big Bang? Apparently it came from nothing but what is nothing? Or is it something? This vast never ending empty space? Is it really empty space? Do you know wonder about these things?

Clearly I do so...good night. :)

Sometimes it takes a while to commit to the switch, and I don't think it needs to be an either/or . If you've been on a board a considerable length of time, you get used to the posters and their pros and cons, but it's familiarity with that which ends up keeping you there.

This site is new, and we have the rump of the old tennis.com board, some ESPN posters, T4U Posters and others who joined via the Social Media route. It takes a while to get used to things, but good conversation and debate in the long run will win the day.

Sid and the others are welcome here all the time, and it might be a gradual process for them to feel comfortable and even longer for it to be their primary board. But, the only way is up for this place and we've got lots of plans to improve the site, make it more inclusive and develop a sold community. We've got the finger on the pulse and a solid core team of admins, mods, bloggers and posters. That will grow because we're going to make it happen and not rest on our laurels.

What we will do is cut the crap out (i.e. personal attacks) and mould the board largely in line with what feedback we get from our community. This is not going to be MTF (which is a board only) - as I mentioned to Nekro, that isn't our aim. The board is part of something bigger that we're going to keep evolving.

I gave up on philosophy! Some stuff is beyond human comprehension I think.

Good night and sleep well.

some good ideas there baron.

that "community" that you speak would constitute a relative small sample size. and it may even have some so called sampling bias.

so no totally relevant or reliable conclusions can be reached or obtained as of yet. its too early and we are too young. we need a significantly larger community for that feedback to be perfectly relevant so we can advance in all the right directions.

still I am liking your propensity for critical strategic thinking. it is quite admirable.

we can do something here that is truly unique to this forum.

it all starts with the right culture. and with doing the right thing 100% of the time.

I think you mold the board in accordance with your own ideas and ideals that are a function of your years and years experience with boards. you ultimately arrive at that perfect idea and that perfect vision. so this is your vision. make no mistake about it.

and then you employ the feed back to make sure that we are always doing all the right things and also trying to give the people what they want as much as possible.

I agree, but I think we also need to be reactive to members, moreso with the discussion forum than the overall website and the grander scheme of things.

For example, Nekro and Slasher have highlighted some issues with images and few other things, which we'll work to iron out (I'll be onto that this weekend). Those sort of things can be irritating to the end user and are easily fixed.

Moxie and tented are also equal stakeholders, it's very much a combined team effort - they do a ton of work behind the scenes which might get overlooked beyond the discussion forum... and we have a great mod team and key anchor posters. We also very much appreciate your efforts with the castle and promoting the site in general.

We're all heavily committed to the project and expanding things, so expect things to ramp up over the next few months with what we are offering.
