I don't think you'll see Isner wasting a lot of energy trying to break Djokovic's serve. He'll try to cruise to the tiebreak unless Djokovic just hands it to him.

Isner will take it. He made a couple of good shots in the 6-5 game, and then Djokovic practically handed him the match with a double fault and an unforced error. I guess he didn't want to get beaten in a tie break again. Well done John Isner and congratulations to him and his fans.

No1e just couldn't handle the Isner second serve and big forehand today. And then Isner put some great first serves toward the end to speed up the match, which works to his favor. Condolences to Nole and his fans.

Respectfully,

nothing to worry about but Andy really should be able to handle berdych on hard courts.

I think Andy will be just fine and ready to make his run at the open.

Isner's forehand is his biggest weapon today. That and his kick second serve. It's really giving Nole problems. Bouncing up very high.

nole is still a menace on the hard courts but I think Andy has him on the run.

nole is clearly a shaken man.

cinci is not really critical but the accumulation of losses is not helping his confidence.

It could be the post Wimbledon blues funk. I didn't quite like the way Andy said nothing he will achieve in tennis would ever be able to top that feeling he had when he won Wimbledon.

But he did just as badly, if not worse last year on hard courts following his Olympic win, and still won the US Open. So who knows?

cinci is not really a good predictor of who wins the open general mc.

only the loss by nole may have some implications.

I really think Rafa has No1e on the run. Or maybe both. Failing at RG was acceptable a bit, after all Nadal is a monster there. And dropping Wimbledon to Murray seemed like it was written in the stars. But failing on hard courts in Montreal to Nadal was No Djok. And now he's fallen here in Cincinnati to John Isner. He's losing points, down to under 11,000 now. At this rate, Rafa might be #1 after the US Open. No doubt No1e is under pressure.

well said general as always.

we made this clear a while back also.

nole had too many points to defend.

and the way Andy mowed him down in straights did untold damage.

you make a superb point. nadal is still a warrior of the highest order when he is healthy, willing, and able.

Let's see if I can make it to the Clay Warrior - Swiss Assassin match. It will be 1 am for me. An hour to go. No warm milk for me... :) Maybe I can find some Red Bull or something like it in the fridge.

Lady Diana is now an Admin at MTF. Snowwy has stepped down. Not even a mod.

Who do you like between Del Potro and Isner, General?

The best returner in the game couldn't handle Isner's lightning bolts from the clouds.
How will Del Potro do?

I may be wrong but I don't think del potro is going to have any huge issues with dr iznaaaah general mc.

del potro is at a different level.

I am not at home right now. We will talk more about del potro next time around.

this dude is smooth.

Hello lovers and losers. :p

A fresh Isner is deadly. Not too many people realize that. As to Andy, I'd told you earlier herc, that he wouldn't go for too much much here or put too much effort, as it doesn't matter, really, to him anyway. Besides, it saves him from playing against Nadal/Federer and this being just one week before USO, doesn't really make it ideal to have a do or die fight situation at this point. You want to save your best for the Majors. So I, for one, am not at all surprised by the straight sets loss to Berdy. Not that this will guarantee a win at the USO, but it's a better proposition.

Looking forward to Nadal/Federer. Though one sided most times, I intend to stay neutral.
