This year is a perfect example got injured and retired at the USO and pulled out of Beijing where he was defending champion at both. Endless bad luck. If he had 1% of Federer’s luck he would have defended both.

Are you the same Nadalfan2013 in MTF?

In your assumptions you left out a few more things. Are you also assuming that you give Federer the same stamina that Nadal has? Further, can we also assume that Federer gets TUE's when he needs treatment for his injured knees?

Imagine that. Federer with Nadal's stamina would've been unstoppable. I said would have 'cos other things in his game have clearly declined years ago but give him boundless energizer bunny energy and there would've been practically no one beating him till a few years ago.

Yeah 'cos he's clearly been injured the whole of his career and that's a nice way to try and justify him never defending even a measly 250 off clay. Top marks for effort.

Yes but I was banned from MTF a long time ago by Fed fans, so if someone is still posting under that same username it’s a fake one. My popularity was responsible for many other nadalfanxxxx members to join. B-)

Federer will play injured... always did. Nadal has pulled out of tournaments because he doesn't think he's fit enough to win... not play.

Nadal was physically fit enough to play Wimbledon 2009... but dropped out because he didn't think he was fit enough to win. Have a nice day
Federer has not often been injured, so I'm not sure where you say he has "played injured." The notion that Nadal was fit enough to play 2009 Wimbledon is controversial, at best, in your mind, and erroneous, in mine. He had a knee injury that had to be rested. I believe Nadal skipped AO '10 because he was not fit to play. A decision that is fair to make.

I think Nadal retired at the AO in 2010 against Murray.

Add the whole subjective issue of "playing injured", ie if a player X loses it's used to justify the loss. I've heard that used upteen times to rationalize/justify Federer losing 2008 Wimbledon to Nadal, for example.

My own feeling is that most players are battling injuries, big or small, most of the time, whether they win or lose.

Rod Laver used to say, "if you step out on the court, no excuses".

No one ever says that Roger was injured playing Nadal at Wimbledon '08. They just tell us that he had mono, and he'd been losing ground since '07 and blah blah blah. He just played like crap, according to fans. No excuses. Except, well, excuses.

I do agree that most athletes hurt a good bit of the time. It's a question of how much.

Yes he was getting his ass kicked and threw in the towel.
He said he felt a pain in his knee and had to stop. Either you believe that Nadal has knee issues, or you don't. You keep praying for him to be kept on court so someone will wreck his already crap knees, so, to some extent, you DO believe he has bad knees. So, which is it?

He may have felt a bit of pain but he wasn't really showing it unlike this past match. He was just getting trashed on an HC by Murray and called it a day, not the only time he retired in a major...

We usually only bring up mono when Nadal fans say injuries and/or fatigue cost him multiple majors. Hell, weren't you talking how tired Nadal was in the 2017 AO final? Well if you want to say that we could say the same for Roger's dismal 2008 Wimbledon performance. As I said earlier this year, that match ages worse and worse for Roger every year as more players show how weak Rafa is on grass. Fed made Nadal look really good that day.

Ok guys, the bottom line is Federer has been 100 times luckier than Nadal in terms of injuries, even if you doubt half of Nadal's injuries. He has missed tons of months, tons of tournaments and tons of slams throughout his career. It's like comparing apples and oranges. This has cost him many slams and many weeks at no.1. Federer had nowhere near as many setbacks, he should be leading Nadal at this point by at least 10+ slams.

No, you only usually bring up mono specific to the '08 season. Because that's when he had mono, right? I do think that Nadal was the more tired in the '17 AO final, because he also had a 5-set SF, and one less day of rest. This has nothing to do with having mono. If Roger had mono in '08, he did. Nothing to do with Nadal in '17. But also, if a trending Rafa, at 22, finally caught up to Roger at Wimbledon in '08, that also has nothing to do with how he performed at Wimbledon afterward. He just beat him that year because he was better. It was a tight match. If you want to make it down to Roger's mono, that's on you. But decide what your excuse is.

It seems you enjoying controversy, I wish Federer had enough luck to be able to play long matches without getting tired.

That I think is a cheap shot. There is a sad, sick trope that Nadal plays long matches without getting tired, and by which it implies bad things. Nadal is a great athlete, and most would not deny that. To imply anything else is sour grapes.

Exactly. Nadal trains 10 times more than Federer, countless of hours in practice and at the gym. If Federer put as much effort and hard work on his fitness then he also would do better in long matches. Heck if you look at both, Nadal looks like an athlete and Federer looks like an accountant. It's normal that Nadal can play as physical as he does because he works a lot on his strength and the physical side, while if there's anything fishy or weird it's how Federer and Djokovic can look so skinny and yet be so strong.
