If both the ATP and WTA are in discussions with the view of suspending both tours for six weeks,I don't think Miami tournament will go ahead.Rafa should stay where he is and keep well.
Living on an island right now is not a bad thing. Hopefully he won't come from California and be Mallorca's "Typhoid Mary."

I guess you could also call Australia an 'island' as well,I am glad our government took quick steps when this virus broke.

Good interview Jon Snow (Channel 4 news presenter) and Giacomo Grasselli - a senior Italian government health official who is coordinating the network of intensive care units in Lombardy. Grasselli makes a very good point that it's not only that older people are dying from this but that it comes down to biological age more than chronological. Some 40 year olds are in poor shape and worse than 80 year olds, for example. Therefore, the healthy 80 year old might have a better chance of fighting the virus off.

I heard from a friend from the Lombardy region. She said that another consideration is that all of these people in ICU are taking beds from people with cancer, for example, or surgery needs, so there really is a crisis in terms of lack of ICU beds. She also mentioned that the North of Italy has the best healthcare, so as the virus moves south, things will become critical more quickly. A friend in Turin says it's "strange," and everyone is trying to stay home. The working/studying from home has also become here in the US, in earnest.

I actually thought of that when I posted. If they're keeping you safe, you could be in better shape than most. Oz is very serious about even odd vegetation being introduced...I should hope they're being vigilant about COVID-19.

30-day travel ban between Europe and the US. Just to be completely reductive and put it in tennis terms: Nadal won't be playing Miami, unless they allow rich people to fly their own plans in. (Always a possibility, with Trump.) Also, MC starts 30 days from tomorrow. So anyone in the US now who needs to qualify won't have that option. Anyone in the main draw in the US now will have to come in last-minute, I guess. Complications mount. As someone said on another tennis site: Roger picked a good time to lay-off.

That is two weeks of IW, two weeks of M and two weeks of Itsy-Bitsy tourneys.

So, the circuit will restart on red dirt in Monte-Carlo (if things are ok by then).
The Itsy-Bitsy called events by you are not lasting two weeks as you counted for, only one week. These are Houston and Marrakech held the same week, usually right after Miami.
So, if events are going to get cancelled for 6 weeks, then MC will be purged too, because that is scheduled in the 6th week.

MC's chances of happening are minimal. I think the best-case scenario would be the grass-court season, but I doubt that will happen either. It'll probably be the USO before we get to see another major.

You are right, the sixth week is MC.

But, I do know that Houston and Marrakech are in the same week as they usually do. Usually, there is a DC week right before Houston and that is not there this year (as DC was played before IW). That messed up my calculations.

madrid starts early may. as you say around 6wks time

maybe a block cancellation of tourneys gives all involved a chance to step back from the growing gloom, horror, worry and confusion. :skull-and-crossbones::radioactive:

rather than a day by day speculationfest about on/off tourneys and rumour and stuff.

I read the latest news. When they said six weeks, they were not including IW as part of their six weeks.

So, all tourneys upto Budapest are cancelled right now (including MC and Barcelona).

The earliest possible next tourney is Madrid.

I’m not sure tournaments will go on if tickets can’t be sold as in players performing in an empty stadium. Wouldn’t tournaments balk at the financial loss? This is terrible all around.

Who said what about "6 weeks?" I find nothing on that. Miami is still on, so far. Monte Carlo says they're still "wait and see," from what I read. Do you have a link to an announcement?

Nothing is official yet except for Indian Wells. But Trump's US-Europe travel man virtually assures that Miami will be cancelled, and the Telegraph's six weeks seems probable. That gives the ATP to assess if it needs to be pushed back further.
