Serena responds or should I say doesn't really respond:

Congrats Sloane! Serena says checkmate!
this will not change anything because the damage has been done...Serena said what an adult should say but I dont think she will forgive Sloane.Stephens has a mark on her back with all players now...plus the statement she gave is so flippant like this is a non event...this magazine will come out this month and will open up more wounds because the media is going to ask Serena about something that she had no control over,I will never forgive Sloane and has never liked her to begin with.

LMAO, I think I was expecting this response from Sloane. Seriously, girl if you are going to put someone on blast own up to it. Don't act like you were naive about what you said. I don't care that she said what she said, but damn take credit for your words.

she is too fixated on Serena and sent a flippant message likethat, she is not contrite and if I were Serena I will continue to ignore her and cold shoulder her.Serena has her career to think of and this nonsense is the work of the devil....by the way Sloane lives at a funeral parlour...no wonder her spirit is very dark.

Sloane's response to Serena's statement was very similar to how she responded to her "that's so disrespectful" comments. She laughed it off and basically said that she was only playing. I agree with tossip, she appears to be fixated on Serena.

Tossip is correct. Sloane main statement in the ESPN is that "They expect another Serena" .. who says something like that. You never heard any player trying to imply an comparison with another legend, that is completely foolish. My suspection is when the Sloane plays Serena before a pro Serena crowd she is going to be deer in headlights. Serena may not let her win a game.

None of which will mean Serena is right and Sloane is wrong. But I agree, Sloane has given a hostage to fortune. But really, did anyone think that if she praised Serena through the roof that Serena was going to let that Oz defeat go unpunished?

Really surprised to read Sloane's initial interview and then her tweet. I said months ago that she needed to put her phone away and stay off talks shows and social media sights. She is not focused and the result of that has turned into a slump that she hasn't found her way out of yet.

She has the right to say what she wants, but just because you can say something doesn't always mean you should.

My mother always said everyone learns in their own way and in their own time. Maybe this episode will teach Sloane about dealing w/ the media. In the meantime, she has to see Serena in the locker room, on court and when they play Fed Cup. She didn't do herself any favors in that regard. Instead of taking the AO win and using it as a confidence building block for her game, she has gone the opposite direction.

What do you mean "None of which will mean Serena is right and Sloane is wrong?"

Whatever Serena did, stop following Sloane on twitter, or removal from Blackberry messenger (seriously, people still use that?), she did it PRIVATELY. No one forced Sloane to go public that Serena wasn't friendly to her, so what, put your big girl panties on deal with it. Obviously, she has a need for acceptance from Serena, like it's some validation.

If you have such an issue with someone, you confront them, you don't blast them to millions of people. Sloane was as culpable as the media with the misconception that Serena was her mentor and that she and Serena were buddy. But, she got upset when Serena didn't follow the script.

Sloane wasn't naive about anything. When faced with any question, any entertainer, sports star or politician or whoever has the right to decline comment. She took the easy way out of her mess blaming everyone else but herself for her mess.

it looks like she ran back home in shame...she only apologised because of the backlash. She thought maybe everyone will persecute Serena but everyone turned against her and released a fake tweet because she couldnt stand the heat.
I will never support her because she is evil, jealous and a liar...

^this.
Another note :Remember when you were young and there was this girl/guy who you couldn't stand and you 'hated' him or her but REALLY all you wanted was for them to acknowledge and 'like' you? This is what all this 'unfollowing' silliness is about. I am going to give Sloane a pass since her post-adolescent brain is still developing. In five years, she will be more self-aware.
And the comment about not signing the poster is irrelevant. If anyone has been to a 1000 event or Slam one would have noticed a plethora of instances of children and adults standing around for HOURS in the sweltering sun only to have the object of their obsession breeze past them on the way back to the locker room. On the WTA and ATP side.

Let's refocus ourselves on the tennis Sloane and make a nice run @ the French.

Sloane is 20yrs old...thats a grown up right there. She wants the limelight at any cost and used Serena to get that media attention. She said a lot of nonsense from January up to now and deserve everything thats coming to her.I dont think Serena will ever forgive her for stabbing her in the back like that...if anyone reads her interviews from January she called Serena e,g.disrespectful, old, phony, fake and most recently she said young kids no longer look up to the sisters..this is as recent as Fedcup.
Sloane knows what she said and better stay away from the sisters as much as possible because she is a poisoned oreo..

Well, I'm not going to choose sides in this because I don't know how the relationship is or was between these two people. It's hard for an outsider to know who (if anyone) is right or wrong. But for Sloan to apologize now for what she said seems less than sincere. That was not a, "oops, what did I say now?" type of comment she made about Serena. This was an all out attack on Serena's character. Something that had been bottling up inside for some time and that she just had to let out or she would explode. She should have known that there would be a backlash. In such a situation she should either stick with what she originally said or she shouldn't have said anything at all.

Yes Sloane is 20 years old and Serena is 10 years older. So it's only natural that one makes mistakes when you're 20 years old while you should know better when 30 years old. Has your Serena been free from mistakes during her whole career? I think not!
No one can tell, not even tossip, what Sloane's reasons were for saying the stuff she said about Serena. Whatever the case Im sure they are not the reasons tossip listed here. Those reasons say more about tossip then about Sloane
I also doubt that tossip's ranting in this thread will give Sloane "what she deserves". Thank God for that.
If there is one who's seeking attention and using the Sloane article and this thread to egg on anti-Sloane emotions to make his precious Serena look good then it is tossip - Give it a rest already!! You really sound like a fanatic priest going on about the sins of Sloane's father. Stop these nonsense now!!!

I agree to an extent, but, for all of Serena's failings, the USO 09 and 11 being the worst, she has NEVER slagged off about another opponent in the manner that Sloane has. I think her closest was Martina Hingis, whom insulted her, her sister and her father initially. And let's keep it real, she definitely had plenty of right and ammo for Justine and Jennifer C.

But did she, no.

I really don't understand why you're comparing mistakes? Maybe Serena never has dissed another player but at the other hand Sloane hasn't made the mistakes Serena has. The main point is that Sloane has made a mistake. Sloane is not only just 20 years old, she also is ranked way below Serena so please all the fuzz to defend Serena's honor seem quite ridiculous. To bring in all sorts irrelevant facts like the death of Sloane's father is disgusting.

I'm not accusing Serena for anything nor do I defend Sloane for what she has said but I am really questioning this blown out of proportion discussion which has been going on and on about Sloane and especially tossip's attempts to start some hate campaign against Sloane

I'm comparing mistakes because you wrote this statement, "Has your Serena been free from mistakes during her whole career? I think not!"

That in itself is a comparison, is it not? No one, at least I'm not defend Serena because she needs no defending, because she didn't say or initiate anything.

As far as the discussion being "blown out," I disagree, that's what we do on here, discuss, debate and argue, we even allow the ridiculous and non-sensical comments like those from Tossip.

Not from where I stand and I doubt if there is any English teacher who would agree with you. It was a rhetorical question but absolutely no comparison

And my comment (to tossip) is part of that discussion, debate and arguments. I stated my opinion and I stick with it as well as my statement that the whole thing is blown out of proportions. I'm sure you would have shrugged it off if it had been about Victoria Azarenka or any other player but hey it's about Serena so excuse me that I find your opinion and your offense more or less biased
