Just a general question for all posters,

What do you think of the crowds and atmosphere at Singapore compared to Istanbul for the YEC?

Or do you think it is too early to make a comparison?
Instabul was like a festival and organic, this crowd seems like a bit controlled ...they are being told to applaud and doesnt seem to know when to cheer .They were applauding Caro s errors yesterday until Asderaki said something.

Lol that's funny you say that. Do you know much about the political climate of Singapore? It's a SUPER strict society. It's very successful economically but there is a lot of big brother type control over the people. There's a lot of social restrictions and you're not really allowed to speak against the government. That's probably why the crowd seems controlled.
its just an observation...dont really care about their politics.I enjoyed Instabul because the fans were very happy to see the players...every player and they cheered loudly for everybody with a lot of joy.

Genie has to cut down the errors, she can't compete in the top 8 making more mistakes than winners, everyone doing that is losing.

Oh Please waiting for Serena to be defeated?
Please see my post in regards to Serena at YEC level
She has the second most winning streak at YEC level in the History of the game
Martina Navratilova presently leads.

It didn't take long, did it?

I just hope people don't dismiss Halep saying to themselves that Serena was off! The few points I watched, Halep just didn't miss, constantly putting pressure on Serena! I think if some of those weaker shots had been cut off at the net, the match should have finished a lot sooner! :puzzled :dodgy:

Congratulations to Simona on the fantastic win. I did not see the match and hope it is
not due to any injury on the part of Serena and it is just due to a combination of Serena
playing crappy and Simona playing great.

I would like to believe in that narrative as opposed to an excuse, as it gives hope for
future matches.

I would like to remind people that in view of Maria's loss yesterday, they are still
even. This means, if Serena can reach the finals with 2-1 RR record(she does not even
have to win the finals), she would attain YE #1, independent of what Maria may or
may not be doing from now on.

This basically involves winning two matches, the one against Genie and
the one against her SF opponent.

But, there is one more issue here. If Serena wins over Genie, but Halep loses to
Ana, then there would be three players with 2 wins each and the semifinalists would
be decided based on percentage of sets won and percentage of games won. This
would seriously hurt Serena as she did not win any set against Halep and also
managed to win just two games.

So, Serena should either hope that Halep wins again (in which case, Serena
will get in as long as he wins her match, efficiency does not matter) or she has
to be ruthless against Genie.

But, Serena will have an advantage as she would know what needs to be
done. This is because they would schedule her match to be the second.
This scheduling is not due to favoritism, but to ensure that every match
is relevant [Note that if Serena's match is played first and she loses it,
Halep can tank her match knowing for sure that she will be in SF and
they would want to avoid that].

I am like you GSM, it was too early for me to watch but I watched the replay thanks to Tented.

Serena had a bad day, terrible IMO, she just couldn't get the ball back in the court in that first set!
Only early part of second set was close but once Serena picked up a little, so did Simona.
Although Serena started this match with an Ace, it seems like once she missed calling that early challenge in the second game, she was doomed!
Halep was Halep, she played a solid, consistent game, she really didn't have to do much in the first set, Serena did it for her.

Right now isn't Ana ahead of Serena in RR format because Ana won here match with Genie with fewer games than Serena won her match against Ana? So, it Serena is going to need to bring the heat in her match against Genie.

After this butt-kickin', I love how Rennae says Halep isn't assured a spot in the semi yet! :nono  :puzzled This is like when the same people thought there was a possibility Cilic and Wawrinka could miss even going to the WTF! :s :nono :dodgy: Idiots!

Noone can take away from how well Halep played against Serena
Serena was just ugly in all facets of her game
Players do have Bad Days at the office. It happens to even the Greatest of players
Serena losing to Halep 60 62 is the worst loss since 1998,at Oklahama City, where Jannette Kruger defeated Serena 61 61.

I will be interested to watch a Halep v Serena in their next match up,I hope Halep gains confidence with this win, next time they meet.

in the scheme of things this is a meaningless win if she doesnt win the whole thing...she will join a pile of players who won against Serena and lost the next match...She will join Cornet,Cepelova,Muguruza and Ana who failed to capitalize on their wins.Halep better win a slam before she starts thinking she is this bigtime player..:eyepop

As I did say in my post,I hope Simona gains confidence in her future matches with Serena
Jury is still out on that question I poised,it still remains to be seen if Simona can defeat Serena in their future match ups.Serena is the bench mark at Singapore her outstanding streak for instance, though in saying that,Simona did break that winning streak.

So, after 3 days of play, Simona leads the red group with 2-0 records. Serena and Ana are 1-1. Genie is 0-2

If you have 9 hours and 26 minutes you can watch the entire day of play here:

I think in the grand scheme of Halep's trajectory it matters a lot. It seemed to me she kind of lost some confidence around the time she lost at Wimbledon. To have 2 such decisive wins here shows me her confidence is back to grind out (or flat out kill) any match she plays.

hopefully she wont t...k her match to let Ivanovic through...I wish she doesnt join a long list of players that beat Venus and Serena and never do anything else after. If Serena is knocked out and she goes to the semis, she must make this win count and win the whole thing beating all the other girls...Kvitova is another player that can let pova through because she idolizes pova.

Guy, we trust you, and understood everything you posted so far, Halep is no good, she's a greedy weakling playing for $ only. So are you stupid now? Of course she will tank her match with Ana for $, not that she needs to tank it, she cannot win against Ana and the other big hitters, they usually wipe the court with her. Sad thing is you will pray for the weakling to win because your favorite was obliterated and humiliated yesterday by her. Extreme fans are so funny.
