Mashafan is a female. She must be devastated by the news.
No where in his blog does he address why a world class athlete is taking medication for ailments she "could" have and why had she been taking it for 10 years. These are two important questions in my opinion.GameSetAndMath said:Huffington Post blogger spins it the other way (and makes it believable too to some extent).
Now, this may turn out to be a mother of all fights. Because, they are no longer simply saying, please let Maria go off as it is a honest mistake etc. They are saying WADA is being vicious in getting her.
Everybody, get your popcorn in whole sale. We may need it for the next three months.

Good question. I think the suspension will just mean she's absent from the tour and will lose all ranking points between the start and the end of the ban, and have to work her way back up the ladder, relying on the goodwill of tourney directors for wild cards to get her into the main draw...

Well considering the drug was only made illegal in January, that wouldn't amount to much, by her standards...

Yes, in this particular case, it was illegal only from Jan 1st. But, imagine a situation where somebody becomes famous and amasses a lot of wealth by doping and succeeding for 10 years and then one day they are exposed and serve say couple of year ban. Those two years ban will be nothing as without doping they would not have been able to amass so much wealth in the first place.

I agree. I actually think it's time they broadened the punishment and started to treat long term drug cheating as fraud and theft, and give prison sentences. Why not? That's what it is. They're not only stealing from sponsors, but they're cheating fans and their fellow competitors. It would be the ultimate deterrent, but it would also be proper justice. A two-year suspension is derisory...

I don't fancy my taxes being spent to imprison sports dopers, but I like the civil suit approach.
it can happen at IW...:snicker..another pigeon in the final....Sundaymorningguy said:Well on the bright side maybe now if Maria gets a decent enough ban the other players can catch up to her number of losses to Serena.
