Gilles Simon is one tough customer--and Nadal, Federer and Murray know this full well.

Gilles Müller is doing terrific lately. He was playing challengers following his injury last year and now he is at a career high ranking and almost a seeded player at this rate at RG. Seems like a nice guy too, a bit too much reliant on his serve for my liking.

Novak beat him in three sets, but literally had to wait for his openings in Muller's service games to squeeze out a break. Seeing how well Gilles is doing, some may even revise their view on Novak's "mediocre" levels at the Australian Open :)

People here in this forum tend to keep their eye only on the top players and the up and comers.
Gilles was ranked at the beginning of last season 368 and he climbed all the way to 36 (new career high) 2 weeks ago.
He has 3 top 20 scalps this season: Bautista Agut, Isner and Dimitrov.
Yes he relies o a lot on his serve, but also, many keep saying there are not enough serve and volleyers.
Well, here is one for you. And he has a great time right now. Apparently he has added a new coach, and doubles partner to his team, Jamie Delgado and he makes a difference, looks like.

EDIT: He has now 4 Top 20 victims, I forgot that Goffin in R1 was another top 20 player.

Stan served well and Muller did not return well the first set. The inexorable TB went to Stan, easily.
The second set starts with a break, Stan losing his serve out of no where.

Simon is one of the most frustrating guys to play against when he is on. Congrats to him.

I think that goes both ways. Murray is also on the top of the leaderboard when comes to play frustrating players.

Another great start by Berdych. Leads 3-0 in the first set after breaking Simon despite Simon leading 40-0 on his own serve. Simon already mumbling.

Another great start from Berdych! He takes the second set 6-2. Will serve to start the set. Just saw he won 100% of his first serves. Also, Simon has never beaten Berdych after dropping the first set. Looking good Berdych!

What a dominating win by Berdych. WOW. 6-2, 6-1. He never faced a break point for the second match in a row, won 95% of his first serves and just ran Simon all over the court. Way to go Berdych!

:clap

Sorry Kirijax... I would have chatted with you through the match, but the TV was downstairs and I'd left my laptop upstairs. Tomas looked excellent out there today. It was hard watching Simon get pushed all over the court, but Tomas was just too good from every part of the court. Congrats!
