I didn't see it, but it is possible that working with Ivanesovic is working for him.

Has Cilic really picked it up or was Tsonga just not on? Anyone saw the match?

Cilic played well but Tsonga was poor. The 1st match point was bizarre. During the point something fell from the ceiling and a woman screamed. Tsonga stopped playing. He obviously expected the point to be replayed but the umpire said he heard nothing which I couldn't understand. Cilic was very sporting and agreed to replay the point which Tsonga won. Cilic then served it out.

Oh and Andy won as well. Woohoo.

Seriously, ever since the implementation of the hawk-eye, I swear some umpires are not even watching the match...you got a problem, challenge...I am not surprised the umpire did not hear anything. Maybe he was texting a friend. Good for Cilic to replay the point though.

And good for Andy. He needs to play matches. That's all he needs.

Ernie in the zone today. Takes out Dimi 6-4 7-6 (3). Faced a couple of BP's but never dropped serve.

Go JJ. Since it's a snow day, I am actually getting to watch tennis today.

If Gulbis is playing well he's entertaining against anyone. Pity the guy can rarely pull off two consecutive good performances though.

Gulbis should register here and unlike my post and your like, Riotbeard  I really hope he channels his mind better and manages to play a few good matches in a row this year. He's bursting with talent and sometimes just goes for too much. Every shot doesn't need to be a winner! And he gets frustrated way too easily, often losing the plot over one shot that barely missed on a challenge, arguments with the umpire over nothing and then his game falls apart. If he could work on that he'd be a real danger to the top guys when he plays well. I still remember that brilliant match against Berdych at Wimbledon. Tons of winners and 30 aces in a 7-6 7-6 7-6 win. Then he was crap next match :nono

I am with you. I love Gulbis. He is so much fun to watch, but that darn noggin of his keeps getting in the way.

I have to say I was hugely impressed with Thiem today. It's the first time I've seen him play. Andy was really impressed with how well he moves around the court.

I don't know if you saw it, but Johnsteinbeck translated a piece about the young Thiem and his quirky coach for us a few months back:

http://www.tennisfrontier.com/blogs/tennis-international-access/on-the-cherry-path-an-up-and-coming-player-and-his-unusual-coach/

Surely he's one to watch.

From tennis.com. Quite humourous and he has a point that it is different rules for different people. Tops guys have only ever been given a warning or lost a first serve and never a point penalty as far as I recall for taking too long.
