It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Didn't he have Rafa on the ropes a few years ago at this same tournament?
Good call, Ks, maybe he's bringing the memory of that good day out there with him. Took Nadal to 3 in a semi...

I remember Djoker said years ago, that he knows Gulbis for a long time. When they played practice matches, he couldn't match Gulbis. However once Ernest plays a real match, you can expect him to lose to low-ranked players more often than not.

Rafa in three, the 3rd being fairly easy.

Too obvious?

yup. too likely overall. there's only so many times you can paint the lines with bullets. then again, you never know if today might be the day.

If Gulbis can pull this off, it's gonna kill my fantasy draw. But, I mean, come on. Who gives a crap. I don't like Nadal anyways. I just picked him to win it because it's the smart pick. I actually like Gulbis. And what he's doing is just ridiculous. I want to call it beautiful. But I'm not sure it is. It's just shear crushing of the ball. Beautiful may not work but remarkable certainly does.

I feel entirely productive today. I must watch matches like this more often. (I'm at TurtleWax getting my truck detailed.)

You have a truck? Very nice! What kinda truck? And does 'detailed' mean it's the roadworthy test?

My guess is that Bodo promised Gulbis 30 virgins and a shiddload of money if he brings him the scalp of Nadal. That's the only explanation. This is Ernest Unchained.

ErnestS (such a weird name) might just be trying to prove Bodo wrong. actually, he's already doing it - there's drama, in a clay court match with Rafa. stop the presses!

It's an SUV. A 99 Pathfinder (an old son of a gun), but runs like a charm. Not roadworthy yet, but getting there.

Bodo won't be pleased with that raised leg fist-pump...

wow gulbis almost hit a ball girl after he slammed the ball in frustration, warning issued by the umpire. Just stupid.

Wow, go Ernests! No offense to Rafa but I would love to see him pull this victory off. He really seems on the verge of being a top 20 player, maybe even better.

Oh well. I really don't see Gulbis winning a third set. Rafa will slaughter him, imo.

Gulbis is the opposite of a champion, as soon as there is tension, pressure and something at stake, he crumbles. But he sure got the bragging rights of being able to hit the biggest ball, the hardest shot from the most unlikely position for winners.
