They've also gone to a heavier ball since the change in the surface to make it play even slower. The conditions in 2002 are vastly different to the current trash. Yes the conditions this year made it even more atrocious but the slow conditions at Wimbledon have been retarded for many years and that's why Roger has had so many clownish losses there. Proper grass he wouldn't have only 8 Wimbledon's

LOL conditions haven't changed from 2002-2018 since Wimbledon was resurfaced in 2001 from 75% rye 25% creeping red fescue to 100% rye grass. Weather conditions are different each year which determines the speed etc. About heavier balls I don't know but that would obviously slow things down but the grass itself hasn't changed.

Hogwash.

Now the excuses are reduced to “ proper grass”.

Proper grass was in 2001 and before. But there is no difference in the grass composition from 2002-2018 that's for sure. Just because Fed hasn't won it 10 times doesn't make it so.

Heaven knows it's not the grass that has limited Federer's success @ Wimbledon over the last decade! He's just gotten his arse kicked!

Fed lost those matches because in part he choked and the major part being faker was sublime , Fed has always been a choking clown and faker is a ridiculous returner so when the first serves stand landing at Fred's feet he loses his shit and starts choking left n right.

I don't fault the grass for Fed's repeated failures at Wimbledon(it was mostly due to drop in form and faker coming into his own) but I certainly do blame Fed's failures at USO due to the ridiculous slowdown there which the USO organisers came out publicly this year.

Roger's best chance to win Olympic Gold was just a couple weeks later on the Wimbledon grass in 2012 after he had just won the MAJOR event! He even had his favorite pigeon in the final; what happened there? Years later he still owned Murray on all surfaces; esp. fast HC and grass! So disappointing! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:

I strongly believe Fed lost that OG final because DelPo tired him out in the SF. Fed was running on an empty tank in the final although overall Fed's form was shit in the tournament which is a pity because he wouldn't have got a better chance to win OG.

There was a lot of talk at the time that old man Fed was tired out by the SF. But he wasn't too tired to withstand a 5-setter with Nadal, after a 5-setter v. Wawrinka at the AO in 2017, 4 1/2 years later. Just another excuse from the fan base that doesn't think it makes excuses. Personally, I think it was in Britain, and Murray took that previous loss to heart and kicked it up a notch, with crowd support and just won it. Give him his due.

That just ticks me off more when I think back to Fed playing out of his mind to beat Nole @ 2011 French Open SF when Djokovic was on a 43 match winning streak, then went down like a poisoned dog to Rafa again in the final! You would have thought if he was that great, he would have taken one of those damn matches against his top rival! :nono:  :banghead:

Oh, get over that one. That's a huge "what if." Someone was going to stop that streak, and it was either going to be Roger in the SF or Rafa in the final. Roger couldn't beat Rafa at RG. Basically no one could. I'm not sure why you need so many emoticons to understand that.

This has been discussed too much already. Those AO 5 sets matches were neither long, nor taxing. He tanked 2 sets against Wawrinka to conserve for a 5th set and the final should have been done and dusted in 3 easy sets only he went passive in set 2.

Hardly a comparison with a very mentally draining 19-17 3rd set at the Olympics in 2012. He said it himself that he had nothing left in his legs running to the corners in the Olympic final and it was plain as day visible. Hardly an excuse when it's a fact he played a crazy long match that was much longer than those easy 5 set matches at the AO.

No excuse? Murray beat Djokovic, who was the harder opponent, on paper. OK, call it a "mitigating circumstance," but you Fed fans pretend you don't make them. I'm willing to entertain "mitigating circumstances" if you lot do the same, but you rarely do. B-)

I'm well aware the surface composition hasn't changed since 2002 but it is still much heavier conditions now and that is due to them using a heavier ball. Many of the tournaments that have slowed down have done so because of the ball they use, not because of a change in the surface.

They play Wimbledon on the "outlier" of grass courts just like they play Madrid on the outlier of clay courts. Yeah I'd prefer to actually see the ball bounce fast and low on grass like it is supposed to. I can see why you sure as shit don't want to see it, your boys would've been raped every time...

On paper means nothing in sport. Who would have thought Soderling would beat Nadal at RG after their last match where he won 1 game. See, it means nothing. There's a profound difference between that and the reality that Federer was physically and mentally drained from a crazy long match. Federer lost to Stakhovsky at Wimbledon because he had no answer for his opponent's s&v throwback that day and his ROS was shit. Who is making excuses here?

Djokovic in 2012 was not considered the harder opponent on grass. Murray was easily swatted away twice by Roger at Wimbledon. It was a bad loss to him for sure just like any loss is. But comparing that to AO 2017?? I'm not even sure there was a day off between the semis and finals and there sure as heck wasn't 2 days.

It would be a nicely rounded resume, but it wouldn't take the GOAT prize. There is plenty to argue within all of that.

Because Novak is the GOAT already. And there is no arguing about it.

Why does he need to win all the big ones twice when the others haven't even won all of them once? I say let him win whatever he can and we'll tally at the end of his career. Patience my friend.

So he becomes GOAT on power 2, if he wins them all 3 times he will be GOAT on power 3. He is already in front all of them.

Djokovic and Federer would have done well at Wimbledon before they changed the grass. It is Nadal who has benefitted the most with it as evidenced by his frequent first week struggles.

Someone wasn't very good in school. 20 is a lot > 14.

Finally beating a 37 year old Federer at Cincy fresh off a ridiculous loss to a scrub at Wimbledon is apparently worth 6 majors. Who knew?
