Am I wrong, or is this Khachanov's part of the season? I'm sure his biggest title came late season.

You well know Karen's biggest win came at this very event in Bercy back in 2018! Novak had his 1st resurgence after taking Wimbledon & The USO earlier that season! He had been "in the weeds" as Fedal went thru a "Redux" of fortune "splitting the spoils" as they had free reign w/ The Lost Gen II's early performances! Roger & Rafa traded #1 ranking & took 3 majors each 2017-early 2018! :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::angry-face:

Actually, as one who doesn't really care about Silent K, or catalogue his career, I didn't remember that. I remember he beat Novak to win the title though, whether SF or F. I'm surprised, and not surprised to be reminded that was 6 years ago. Has he done anything interesting since?

Well I just listen to his interview and he sounds sick,, btw it is an intestinal virus, he had it before arriving in Paris,on doctors advice on Sunday after practice he decided to withdraw.
I always sounded like that ringing in sick for work.

In the last match on CC.
LL Cazaux stuns Shelton in straight sets 63 76(4)
I'm not really surprised by this because Cazaux was more well rested that Shelton. But why did Cazaux get the bye instead of Shelton? I mean, Shelton played in a final last week.

Cazaux wasn't given a "bye!" He was more a filler for Sinner who WD just B4 the start of the event! The guy was a LL & benefitted greatly! In 3rd RD!

Cazaux was a LL and replaced Sinner in the draw, reason why he got a first round bye.

Going 3 in the match between Zverev and Fils, Fils has such great touch on his volleys has been a tight battle so far

I have also been keeping an eye on the other match played at present Draper v Alex de Minaur, Draper was leading 5-2 and Alex fought back to 5 all, then a few costly UFE from Alex and Draper won the 1st set 75
Alex needs to win this match to pass Rublev in the Race to the Finals

Commentator just mentioned this is the first time Fils has made it to the R16 at a Masters. Interesting.
I have always liked Fils as a player, he is young and lately has posted some good results, good that he has made the round of 16 in front of his home crowd
Zverev breaks Fils serve early in the 3rd set, leads 3-1 Darn!

I don't know about Fils' upside -- we really never known until they have that big "breakout run," but one thing I'll say is that he seems to have a very good floor - he seems like a lock to be a second tier, top 10 guy and Masters winner, who will go deep in Slams and maybe win one or two.

To put it another way, I think his floor has surpassed guys like Rune, Korda, and Auger-Aliassime -- all guys who have equal or better upside, but have disappointed to varying degrees. Fils has the feeling (filsing?) of being more consistent overall.

This year has seem some nice development and/or "micro-breakouts"* from some young guys: Fils, Perricard, Draper, and of course the first title by a guy born in 2005 (Shang).

(*By this I mean the first real rise up the rankings into the top 50ish, and perhaps first lower level titles...not the full breakout when we get a real sense of how good a player might be)

Zverev trying to close out the match , Fils has had a couple of BPs but cant convert so far, he needs to get on the return of Zverev's 2nd serve which is his weakness
Zverev d Fils 64 36 63
Fils was bidding to become the youngest (20) quarter finalist in Paris Master history, not to be this year sad to say!

I hope Tennis Channel switches to this match, now that Zverev/Fils is done.
TC should switch I am on another service called BeIn Sports
Alcaraz v Humbert match is coming up on CC, TC might go there.
