Nadal pulled out because he knew he would generate very good reading material here.

Oh please, stfu. LOL. Nadal should have lost on dozens of occasions to Federer and Djokovic that he didn't.
LOL I would better say the opposite, Federer an Novak should have lost on dozens of occasions to Nadal, they have had a lot good luck because his injuries, otherwise both never would have won RG and maybe a couple of GS either, world!

Miss Carol , why would you debate with someone's who's only premise is "should've".. should've is worst than could've. If if either of those were proper words they would be the word DID

Nadal has never taken the Fall season seriously; hence his abysmal record with only a couple finals in Paris and London! :nono:

I don't know if it as much him not taking the fall season seriously, as A) the generally fast hard surfaces not being ideal for his style of play, and B) exhaustion/wear due to his first two-thirds of hard playing.

Remember that Nadal's season is centered on clay, which is April - May. Add in Wimbledon and he peaks around mid-season.

Anyhow, as he moves into his mid-30s, his version of Roger's career-extending "miss clay, play 75% of a season" might be to frequently skip Fall tournaments. I know he'd really like a WTF, but if I'm him I might try to skip some of the Fall tournaments and try to be healthy for November. I think that's kind of what he tried to do this year, but risked playing Paris for the momentum thing.

OK, on to the final. On paper, this is about as lop-sided as one could imagine for a Masters final. On the other, if Shapovalov is going to breakthrough and become a great player, this is the type of situation that marks the occasion. I hope he pulls off the upset, but it is hard imagining how he might do it. He really needs Novak to do some of his astral travelling.

This has traditionally been the upset Masters where we do see those "break-thrus;" last year it was Khachanov over Djokovic!

You are right, it's not worth. 'They should've, they wish (their fans) they would'.... but they didn't B-)

Got home from a great birthday dinner to the news Rafa had to withdraw.....hopefully the AB problem wont stop him from the end of year final in London.

On a different note, I see Rafa retired with menstrual cramps.

Countdown to Moxie's temper tantrum, 3...2....1.....

:D
If you're happy to be that person, you do you! ;)

I was seriously thinking that Rafa's end of year story may be different this year, considering he would be physically fresh after a long break since USO (except for a match or two in Laver cup) and also due to potential mental boost from the wedding. But, it has become same story.

I am seriously disappointed (as I like to watch Rafa lose ;)).

Don't be coy. You are still hoping that Rafa gets the YE#1, because Novak is getting so close to passing Roger. Am I wrong?
