Paris/Bercy has often been the place for an unexpected winner.
Correct, but when you think who those were: Berdych, Tsonga or Ferrer, all of them proved to be in the end those players who ended up right behind the slam sinners as far as entire career is concerned.
So it would be a shocker to see any outsider ( someone not top 10 already or before, like JM), to win it all.

If you make them outside of the top 10-ish, then, no. But it's a MS1000. Those have been won by the Big 4 for the last many years. Even a lower top-10 guy winning a MS is still a thing, if it's not the big 4-ish. No? Del Potro winning would be an anomaly, right? But who's left that could actually win and shock?

Ok, but this year already looks like a fluke with Zverev (2) and Dimitrov also winning.
So if Rafa does not win it, 4 masters in a year would go to not big4 players. That will just signal some sort of transition to me, despite the slams all won by Fedal.

I don't think that Paris has ever signaled a sea-change. It's the end of the year, and anyone can win it. Ferrer's lone MS was here in Paris. Is del Potro still without a MS? This could be the one.

Surely Zverev and Dimi have won other MS this year. Yeah, but Murray and Djokovic, who've been big winners of the MS were basically AWOL all year. So that did leave the door open to others. Transition? Maybe, but only if Murray and Djokovic don't come back strong next year. Let's face it: they left a year when they should have been strong, to others. A few players picked up the scraps at the MS, but Fedal took the big ones.

Watching the replay of Nadal vs Chung I can’t believe after to be 5-2 winning the first set then it finished 7-5. Typical start by Rafa....hope tomorrow he will play more solid vs Cuevas though also I have to say the Corean is a tricky player so it was a good training to start playing in Indoor
I think I replied to one of your post..Rafa played at half speed yesterday vs the youngester..Maybe he will take it up a notch vs PC?

I still give the youngings credit for stepping up ..The ones who had a disappointing year was the old French players although JoWillieTs have been sore of a bit resurgence this Fall.

No way, maybe you don’t know that Thiem is one of my fav players even that he is not doing too much now, I think he needs or a new coach, maybe a new racket or diferent mind

Wowza! Fernando defeats Thiem. Although Dominic is usually losing to a lower ranked player on HC, still great for Fernando.
And happy to see JM defeating Haase, he is now top 10 bound.

I mentioned @isabelle's comment of earlier. Paris has long been complaining that it gets sloppy seconds at the end of the year, not just this year with Roger (and Novak and Andy and Stan) out. Of course Roger has the right to decide what he plays and what he skips. There is no active player more entitled in that way. And never even minding contracts, does anyone doubt that Roger will play Basel? Or that, when the time comes, it will be his last tournament? I get Forget's frustration, but I don't know what the solution is. They have talked about putting it in February, as the first MS of the year, but that would front-load the Master's and leave nothing big before the YEC. Someone has to be the last one, and Bercy makes sense.
I agree about Bercy. It's almost like it's the tournament that decides the last qualifiers for YEC than anything else. It will remain so..

Ok, one more match and then he would need some rest to be fresh in the WTF

Filip Krajinovic is having a break out here, in fact he kept moving up recently. Perhaps indoors suits him

Goffin officially qualified.

Only one spot left. For all practical purposes, it will be either PCB or JMDP. If JMDP wins his next match (a winnable one, considering it is
against Isner), JMDP will most probably qualify and otherwise PCB will most probably qualify.

Technically speaking, three more players have a theoretical shot at the last spot. They are Isner, RBA and Sock.

I'm just looking at the scores, but it said the physio was called, then Rafa got broken back. Is it the knee?
