I think Goffin v. Mannarino and F. Lopez v. Pouille could be very interesting.

The surface looks quite fast to me -- from the little I've seen. But I checked some stats and 90% of the points seem to be finishing before the sixth shot is fired -- that's s signature of fast surfaces. Too bad Federer couldn't make it...

Carreno and Querrey (two London contenders) already out -- Carreno now rooting against Anderson, del Potro, Tsonga and Pouille. Vamos delPo! I like PCB but given the moment and the surface all the other guys would be a better addition than him. Hope I can manage to see a complete match today. If you check the schedule a lot of matches are either a pretty good one, or at least an intriguing match up (e.g. Isner x Schwartzman).

P.S. I had to make a good effort not to post this post on the Fedal wars thread -- you know, fight fire with fire....

I will say that I heard the commentators yesterday say that it was slow, which surprised me. But they say all sorts of crap.

So, Rafa is YE #1. Congratulations! And Verdasco beats Anderson. I picked this one in my draw. Fernando is back playing some nice tennis late in this season.

Congratulations to the great Rafael Nadal. He comes back to number one after four years rising from number nine all the way number one in one year. It is a great achievement for one of the greatest players ever. Olé

And meanwhile Mannarino is playing with the same racket since the last AO. He is asking for a shop that makes that type of racket. And also he is playing with the same shirt for one year.....odd or maybe superstitious because he says that he is doing well

In follow up to my last one, I guess congrats also to Mr. Federer--who rose even more spots in the rankings from number 17 to number 2. He and Rafa demonstrate what true greatness in the sport is, even over and above an entirely new and hungry (and far younger) generation. Simply outstanding!

At this time, it looks like Goffin and JMDP will qualify.

But, it ain't over until the fat lady sings. There are six players who have theoretical chances still alive in Bercy. Also, PCB who already exited is currently in position 2 for the remaining two spots. JMDP is in position 3, but still alive. Goffin is in position 1 (and alive as well). JMDP needs to win two more matches to go past PCB. His next match is fairly easy (Hasse). But, the one after that might be little tough (possibly Grigor or Isner).

Hope JMDP qualifies.

Just noticed that Guy Forget was being a bit of a whiney bitch because Federer decided against turning up to Paris. I can understand his disappointment but the fact remains that a guy who has played well over a thousand matches in his career has earned the right to skip tournaments, it's a part of the ATP rules to try to sustain the longevity of older players. He should just get over it..

This is more about revenue for the tournament than anything else. Besides everyone knows that Basel is a contracted event for Fedand he will always plays that tournament over Paris.

Congrats to Rafa. It is a big deal. Congrats to Roger too. Those two made it a very special year for their respective fans. Probably tennis fans in general. Highly unlikely it will repeat ever again but who knows... I am tired of underestimating these guys all the time.

I still cannot stop lamenting over Roger's decision to play in Montreal. Otherwise, he would most probably have the USO trophy and the #1 to go with it. But, I forgive him as, generally speaking, he takes care of his scheduling properly.

Totally agree! I was fuming about that at the time. An unbelievably stupid and uncharacteristic mistake
