Cilic was a big surprise... Dimitrov less so... he seems in a real rut.
For sure, the upset of the tournament so far, but it's hard to count on Cilic. Dimitrov...he's going to have to really reassess his commitment and perhaps his team. He's believed the hype for too long.

Hey Britbox and other tennis fans. Clay Death was in an accident and is in ICU with broken ribs. I received a DM from Divine (Camelot). Please keep him in your prayers.

Thanks TF, I spoke to CD on Twitter and we all hope he makes a speedy recovery but I think he's broken all of them, so it's going to be a lengthy recuperation. Get well soon @ClayDeath

Good lord, that has got to be painful. If he's in touch on social media, and here, that has to be a good sign. Wishing you all best @ClayDeath for a speedy recovery. Get well soon, then come back and give us all the gory details.

And Cilic went out to Trungelliti. Seriously? I pay attention to the Italians, and I never heard of this guy. Has never even one a title in Challengers. It's as hard to respect Cilic as Dimitrov...both gone. I think Dimitrov was up 2 sets and a break, and managed to blow it. :rip:

I hope Stepanek will be well rested and beat Murray in the fourth set despite being a break down.

I remember when I got into long arguments in 2013 after Nadal beat Dimitrov in a tough match (I think it was at Monte Carlo) with everyone who was claiming Dimitrov is a sure-fire future Grand Slam winner. Never felt it at the time, as his game is clearly lacking in certain respects. The most disappointing thing is not so much him not being close to winning slams (most players don't), but that his game has almost literally not improved at all. He's still the same player. Amazing how much he stagnated.

I was pretty high on Dimitrov's potential although I remember him being too pleased with losing to Nadal in that particular match. It raised an alert about his mentality... Definitely stagnated and this year his lack of progression is standing bare as players start passing him by.

Murray ties it up at 2 sets apiece. Stepanek had his chances - break points at 2-4 to bring it back on serve... but Murray held tough and we head into a deciding stanza.

The only time I really bought into Dimitrov being a future multi-slam winner was in 2014. He made the quarters of AO and the semifinals of Wimbledon against Rafa and Novak and had chances in both of those matches but lost the plot when it mattered. At the time it was understandable that a young player would flinch in his biggest matches to date. It is part of the process but needless to say Dimitrov never improved at all mentally since then and his game has regressed quite a lot.
