I don't know that I agree it's top heavy. I think it's a bit more balanced. I mean realistically only Ash and Iga are threats up there, w/ Mugu running a close 2nd only if she gets her head right. The bottom half seems more volatile and unpredictable. You have no idea how Serena will fair and she's the only player in the draw to win RG multiple times. P3tra, Vika and Saba are wildcards. They can play like a gazelle on the dirt and hit a hot streak or look like cows on ice... :smiling-face-with-horns:
I still feel if Sabalenka can keep her UFE intact, she can be a big threat in the bottom half of the draw, she has come into RG with a Madrid title.
When I looked at the top half of the draw,Barty and Iga if they proceed through they will meet in the s/final.,which in ways is a shame it cannot be a final, with the defending champion playing a former champion in Ash.

USO 2018 against Naomi. That barnburner wasn't a QF? I remember the momentum went back and forth and Saba led in the decider and gave the match back. That opened the door to Naomi winning her 1st slam.
I never said it was a q/final,I said Sabalenka has never made it past a 4Rd match in the GS,3rd on clay.
USO 2018 4rd match Osaka won 63 26 64 over Sabalenka.

Well she has to try something, so far her only options are clay and grass for a slam because she hasn’t really figured out an effective tactic against Osaka on hard courts. I’d take an ugly win for Serena, but she hasn’t even figured out a good way to do that yet when the match isn’t going her way.
Good point. Whenever Serena faces Osaka she tries to hit through the younger champion..it hasn't worked to fruition thus far..this is new territory for her and you are correct.she needs to try something else.. I think she needs to add some ladies into her practice and hitting sessions.

I was just working through my draw challenge, and I agree with you. I don't think it's terribly unbalanced. Certainly not like the men's this year.

Help me Angie Kerber (26) lost the first set 62 now down 0-3 to A.Kalinina(Q).....Angie's form has gone south since last year.
Kerber improved somewhat in the 2nd set, though Kalinina held strong and won 62 64.

Just read that Serena will get the night match tomorrow on Chatrier

All night matches are behind closed doors until 9th June (due to the curfew in Paris).

Apparently Coco's doubles partner Caty McNally has a calf injury resting for the grass season, the main reason she teamed up with Venus, which I think is a wonderful experience for Coco.

Good to hear that Victoria Azarenka has gotten over her back injury that did force her to withdraw from earlier tournaments, she defeated former RG champion Kutnetsova 64 26 63.

Iga Swiatek with an impressive start - first set her third consecutive 6-0 game in a row. Perhaps she wants to give herselfa double bagel as birthday present - yeah Iga is turning 20 today - congrats.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek off to a quick start against her best friend Kaja Juvan 6-0 1st set
Much closer in the 2nd set but Iga wins 7-5.

This is funny...Swiatek potential future great clay courter, with a birthday during RG. Rafa's is in 3 days, and Borg's is on 6 June. Just sayin'.
