Lol ..you don't have to be a fan but to come forward which is what I always teach my students..(If you want the prize move forward, all good things happen that you can control by taking control of the net instead of staying back waiting to be someone's prison sweetie) ..that the type of play that wins you grandslam titles..eg. The young Greek and Sacha both lost their chances by staying back waiting on Novak and Dominic to make UFEs.. Holger Rune is a full up grown ass Man..like him or not he will be in a final in the near future IMO.
I never said he would not be in a GS final one day, talented he is., he will win GS titles.

Anyone on a given day can beat you regardless of your ranking higher or not?
The main thing is any player has to Turn up and be ready to play on the day
Not necessarily, no. Some players rise to the occasion and some don’t. You can nearly tell who they are before they play. Both may turn up ready on the day but there are players who are not lethal enough at certain moments…

Sometimes, players can rise to the occasion, I have seen many matches where a player was soo favored to win and then got punished, also depends on the surface at times, clay is the hardest to win, tests you physically and mentally

To me, anyone can be beaten in BO3 for the simple fact that anyone can get hot for 2 sets. In BO5, the better (conditioned) player wins more often than not. It's always the 3rd set that's toughest to win. If men's tennis slams were to go BO3 in the future, expect a lot more parity, like you see in the women's game.

Of course, ‘favoured players’ can get punished. Shocks happen. We have to always factor that in. But also, who favoured them? People were telling us the other day that Tiafoe will win a slam before the end of the year. Well, I’m still waiting for Tim Henman to win Wimbledon. He was ‘favoured’ to win that by so many experts, though it was obvious that he’d never win it, even on his best day…

I laughed quietly when someone said he would win a GS this year,
Your still waiting for Henman to win Wimbledon I will see you and Tim at Wimbledon in Heaven, I am sure there are grass courts there, somewhere No?

Henman had less amount of weapons than Vitas Gerulatis (GodBless and rest his soul).. Vitas had speed and serve and volley plus net game was in the same zipcode as Johnny Mac but not as good. Tim's game really didnt bother a player with real weapons. He was a fantastic grass court player but had zero weapons to earn he cheap easy point except for the occasional serve.

Well the kid has five minutes to savor this victory and then move on. It's huge as a 20 year oid to "defend" your QF result from the previous year, again young kids feel pressure too, and other than Nadal, every young buck has to go eventually through the baptism of a five set red dirt match at Roland Garros. (Alcaraz has already spoiled us as to what we expect from 19/20 year olds..) So your first French Open 5 set win being 7-6 versus a South American grinding dirtballer has to be so satisfying. that 3-4, 0-40 situation versus Cerrundolo who is the quintessential clay court specialist who can get into maddening groove on rallies. Yes maybe Holger will think about mixing it up more but again, again with Cerrundolo, kudos Holger! This is the type of muscle memory you want an up and coming kid to have in his backpocket. We won't know until he plays Ruud if this match will loosen him up and relax him a bit or if he come out flat/ drained and exhausted. So many second guessing through the years if these matches help or hurt.

Pleased to see Little Holger got to net about 60 times, again not afraid to volley. j Still want him to beef up that serve, nice motion but could be a huge weapon going further in his career. The 35 drop shots are par for the course. .LOL.

I will say this, the Draw is a factor Can you imagine him playing Alcaraz or Djokovic next in the Quarterfinals after this exhausting match??

Sorry but I had to drink fluids (SCOTCH) after that match.... Whiskey doesn't dehydrate does it??

I’m still waiting for people to understand the game we all watch, is what I mean. When people said Henman would win Wimbledon someday, I shook my head wondering what they were on. And we have modern Henmans playing today, talented, but they lack that extra thing. Winning these big titles is less about talent and more about that interior beast that doesn’t take no for an answer, when there’s big titles on the line..

I understand what you meant, just giving some light humor to the post that is all, agree when many people said he would win Wimbledon I also shook my head. I still cannot understand to this day why Pat Rafter with all his skills could not win Wimbledon he has the game to win on grass.

Divine intervention happened for Goran Ivanisevic for 2 weeks in 2001, and Pat Rafter was denied on that People's Monday.

Well, Pat was unlucky. He had Sampras on the ropes in 2000, up a set, up a double break in the second set tiebreak, and he collapsed a little. I remember watching Pete get the mini break at 5-4 and let out a roar. I let one out too. The match was over - and it was still only the second set.

You can see that sweet moment here, at 11 minutes and 20 seconds.
