^She has struggled with her weight for a long time, Taylor. Couple years ago there was a huge controversy when USTA asked her NOT to play tournaments because of her weight. They claimed it was for her own good.

Well, I am sure she could benefit from losing weight, but she made it to number 1 in juniors with this weight. Everyone is different.

Yeah KS and I were talking about this perhaps a year ago, but this weight seems to be much more than she was carrying during the Juniors. I understand people have different body types but geez....

I find it hard to understand how , with all the training, she carries that much weight. Maybe it is a metabolism issue. But she is still a teenager too. She will figure it out. She is a strong girl and has a great lefty game.

Whether it's a metabolism issue or not, she could severely use some pilates or strength conditioning. It won't necessarily drop alot of pounds, but it will elongate her frame and make her lean in the middle and tone those arms and legs.

Townsend gives one break back. Roller coaster , this one.

Goes back up a double break and then holds. She's one game away 5-1

That's her ticket. If she's aggressive, she will close this out.

I'm watching it on the tennis everywhere app and it's a min or two behind. Great job Taylor! Alize will probably be crying in her towel. She's a little high strung like GG said.

Wow Taylor must have been through her media training. She was really good in that interview.

#3 survived today so still a topseed left  - well not the best from Aga but she's the best of the players today on a cold day in Paris - not much joy from the players which is quite understandable with temperatures well under 20 centigrades - 14 in fact! - but it's getting worse. Tomorrow it's predited to be 13 and Friday and Saturday there will be times during the day where temperature will be 12!!! This match we saw people with umbrellas so it has also been dripping from above. 60% chance of rain tomorrow - wel, well not super conditions in French Open this year. Maybe we should have a fashion blog where we see what the players are using against the cold. I'm glad Aga hat a sweatshirt over her - sorry - ugly dress.

^ Kskate started a fashion thread that we can use. Hoegren if you have some pics feel free to post there. I saw Agas white shirt over the floral and it was so much more palatable.

Would love to see Jankovic win her first GS here. That would be a great story. Draw is opening up so her chances are improving.

All I can say is wow!!. I picked Serena but knew that Gabby would be a difficult match. This was especially true after I saw how Serena played in the round. Although the score-line showed an easy match, she was too tense and way too many UFE's. Martina N. said it best, at Serena's stage in her tennis career, it is not always about the physical side of the game; mentally you are aware of your place in history and realize that you have so much more to lose. Serena still has the physical weapons, but her emotions/mental will continue to sometimes fail her at the big moments.

That said, congrats to Gabby, may she go far. The field is now wide-opened for someone to prehaps win their first major or for Maria to win her fifth.

I agree with your thoughts regarding Serena and how she played her first rd match.Too many ufe, also I didnt like the way she was serving. If my memory was correct she made 4 dfs in her last service game to win the match.Actually I wasnt 100% confident with Serena in her match against Garbine at all.
Serena came out as flat as a tack in the 1st set..I was waiting for her to turn the match around in the 2nd set,not to be.Serena to me lacked the fight, that really shocked me.She needs work on her serve, she has the time now.Credit to Garbine for win.

Congratulations to Talyor Townsend a good win over a tricky opponent in Cornet.
(her win brightened my day).
