Bye bye Serena and bye bye as almost 2000 points fall off her ranking.

We never got the angry Serena today, sometimes that helps. That top half of the draw looks like a bunch of unnamed players. Guess I'm rooting for Cibby on this side of the draw now.

We keep waiting for Serena to tie Martina/Chrissie. This will be the hardest one for her. I said 2 years ago when she came back that she would get to 18 and not anymore. It's looking very much like that will be the case.

Well now that she has extra time on her hands she better practice hard and bring it at Wimbledon. No excuses! Time to go visit dad and get that serve better.

There are no excuses Sunday. She has been dismal in the slams this year. She's got 2 left to make an impression so the whole year isn't lost.

Well folks give a little credit to Muguruza she played reeally well and never let Serena into the match. And if you're not allowed to play your game even Serena will loose. I wrote some time ago about this Spaniard that she'd be a factor in womens tennis, and now she has the confidence doing great things. Bravo and credit to Serena for the nice gestures after the match - she knew she'd lost to a better player on the day:clap:clap

That's what's most surprising. Her serve -- the greatest women's serve ever, as so many believe -- is letting her down. I only saw the last few games, but I can't remember the last time I saw Serena DF twice in one game.

I am not mad that Serena lost more about how she lost. I realize that upsets happen and Garbine played well. I am just angry that there was no fight in Serena what so ever this match. It is like Serena resigned herself to losing today. That is what disappoints me.

The serve has been off all this year and in stretches the end of last year. Alot of this is mental. If you aren't up for it mentally the body is not going to follow suit.

Not really Isabelle. Clay wasn't their best surface even when they were younger.

Muguruza was probably as difficult an early match up as Serena could face. She is a classic dirtballer, content to keep returning shots and waiting on her opponents errors. But she can throw in a few winners on occasion as well.

Muguruza brought her "A" game today, and did not wilt under pressure, as so many of these younger players are knows to do. Congratulations to her on a fantastic win.

Serena will be back making noise and playing big in a few weeks at Wimbledon. I still say she's a career 20+ Slam winner.

I am a HUGE Garbine fan and always watch her matches and practices at the Sony Open in Key Biscayne each year. She is a up and comer and will be in the mix for years to come with Bouchard, Halep, Cibulkova and others. I am soooooooooo pleased with what she did today. Ole!

Quickly off to work, but a number of people felt Garbine was going to be a challenge for Serena, and they were right. Eugenie still in and her draw becomes more favorable with Flavia being beaten today. Can the teddy bear sweetheart continue to roll in the French Open??

The draw is now WIDE OPEN on both ends, Genie has as good of a shot as Maria does, at this moment of time.

JJ, Aga, Petra, Slamin' Sammy.... Anyone can win it now!

All I can say is wow!!. I picked Serena but knew that Gabby would be a difficult match. This was especially true after I saw how Serena played in the round. Although the score-line showed an easy match, she was too tense and way too many UFE's. Martina N. said it best, at Serena's stage in her tennis career, it is not always about the physical side of the game; mentally you are aware of your place in history and realize that you have so much more to lose. Serena still has the physical weapons, but her emotions/mental will continue to sometimes fail her at the big moments.

That said, congrats to Gabby, may she go far. The field is now wide-opened for someone to prehaps win their first major or for Maria to win her fifth.
