With Almagro winning over Dog in R1 match, Rafa's job becomes easier in R2. Even though Dog would not defeat Rafa, Dog would not provide any rhythm to Rafa thus creating some trouble.
Almagro has the standard dirt devil type of approach and so will actually give some good practice to
Rafa getting him ready for future matches.

So, he was not the defending champion last year? :puzzled

That's right, they put him on Lenglen last year. Guess Ralf made it to Chartrier thanks to his opponent. The French don't seem to be Nadal fans.

Tourneys get tired of some champions! I remember Chris Evert relegated to a couple outside courts at Wimbledon along the way; same for Connors and even Navratilova! :nono  :dodgy:

That's true. It's really become standard to have the top players in the show courts in the last decade. I think it's the Roger effect. I know for a fact that if Roger was on one of the outside courts or even court no 1 at Wimbledon there would be a ridiculous drain from Centre court. I've seen that type of thing before. It just makes the organisers look foolish. I believe there was one year when I was there as a client and Roger was on Court 1. Once it was confirmed a huge group of us rushed out quickly. And it's not just the Federer fans. If you pay that kind of money you want to see the best. Can't remember what year it was..

I knew there was something I liked about the French! :snicker

I wouldn't have minded them adjusting the seedings just a bit, but in this instance, Nadal doesn't deserve any consideration after such an abysmal season! If he had been coming back from injury and was playing his way back and looking good, putting him at #4 wouldn't have bothered me at all! It would have been unfair to Berdych, but his level of play is nothing to write home about; not entertaining and is as predictable as ants at a picnic! I feel for fans of Tomas who works amazingly hard; sorta like Ferrer, but it does them no good! It only keeps them in the top 10 normally unable to knock off the top echelon without assistance! One appearance in a major is almost not worth it! In my day total nobodies did better; Pioline, Philippoussis, Gerulaitis, among others! :cover :nono  :dodgy:

I've never seen a player who takes so much attention like Nadal and also diferent opinions
'On what court he is playing' 'to whom he plays and what is his ranking' 'how he is playing' ' he has played well' 'he has not played so well' 'his opponent was playing well' 'his opponent wasn't played so well' 'the French crowd doesn't like him too much' (I see they like him more and more) etc etc etc :popcorn :hug :basiate

Morning to my fellow Frontierers on the wrong side of the planet. Now to check and see what went on in the City of Lights while I was in dreamland.

Sock won! Yes! :clap While I feel a bit sorry about how Dimitrov's season is quickly becoming a nuclear waste site, it's great to see Sock advance. so now we could see a Sock-Nadal 4th round match. Glory awaits for Jack Sock!

Isner won as well! I keep forgetting the American Serving Machine is not bad on clay and I'm genuinely surprised when he wins a match on the surface. I need to stop that.

Everyone else who was supposed to win won I see. Djokovic finally gets his quest for the French Open started.

Boy, this year's French Open website sucks. It is not easy to find information that you are looking for. IBM slamtracker is gone.

The problem is that they feel a compulsive need to change things around every year. They should realize that change is not necessarily good. Sometimes you regress when you change good design.

I went to see it once and the other times I go there now is to see the videos they are hoarding. And I've given up on slam tracker.

I now go to FlashScore.com almost as much as I come to Frontier.

^ i think the main problem is that it's an exclusively mobile/tablet-oriented design. doesn't really work. oh, and were they ever using SlamTracker? i'm not even sure. anyway, yeah, there's been better.

If Grigor is any kind of future champion he has to be taking out guys like Sock with prejudice :nono

i honestly dont see anyone in the next generation right now who can consistently go deep in tourneys like the big 4 have been doing.

IBM slamtracker, which I do not like by the way, is not gone. You can access either from the ATP site or from the RG site, but maybe from the ATP site is easier.

Yes, you cannot find anything in the new RG sites. Sites are getting worst by the day. They are made for the stupid casual passer-by, who just wants to grab a few headlines. But the bigger problems is that the new site is pretty heavy, so everything is quite slow. Alternative score trackers would surely be faster.

The issue is many fans and specialists have put a lot of hope into the Dimitrov basket. Altogether, he is a big disappointment. He not just stopped improving as far as results, rather faring below a season ago.
Looking beyond today's straight set loss he had, I will applaud Jack Sock for having an attitude rarely seen in today's US players. He came back after his surgery as a mature player who knows what he wants. He may be limited technically, with his BH but he is trying to maximize what he got.

Sometimes life throws you big obstacles in life and you get a different sense of everything. Sock not only came back after his surgery, his brother had a serious health scare, and their grandfather has Alzheimer's.

This is the link about Jack's brother Eric

Top quality tennis from Niemenen the first two sets. Novak ran his legs off, and now he's having all kinds of trouble here in the third.

I just watched some highlights. It does look like old Nieminen can still hit the ball. So you had to endure a bit of a nolecoaster for at least 1 set. I blissfully missed it completely.:D

As if he knew Front and I discussed it the other day, this is how Nole's youngest brother sees Nole's pre serve routine:

:laydownlaughing nothing better than brotherly love.

:snicker That's terrible.

There really wasn't any Nolecoaster Billie... Niemenen was playing great tennis. Nole just hung around, waited for his spots and kept at it. He wasn't tense or nervous, so neither was I.

:cry for Vasek...but yay and :clap for Sousa. I hate it when 2 guys I like have to play each other so early. And if I remember the draw correctly, Sousa will probably be taken out again by Mrzz' guy in the next round. :nono

EDIT: I just saw that Bellucci plays Kei tomorrow so Sousa is safe from him.:D

Good, I was afraid those would take some years off of you...better to save it for later rounds.:snicker
