Yes! Lajovic up 2x1!

I hate to admit, but Paire is really playing very good tennis now.

You got it all wrong. It is no cult, no fetishism. It is much more simple than that:

One handed back hand people are superior human beings in relation to two handed back hand people. But when the day comes, we will not cage or enslave the rest. Just demand a few tributes. Oh, and maybe let them do this cult thing.
I guess you like giving them a back-hander too. Lol.

It would really be nice for the broadcasters to show a shot of the match with how dark actually it is so folks can appreciate how difficult it is to see the balls. With all the filters they use, it is always beautiful daylight.
(Not to be technical, but it's not the filters. Filters actually cut light. It's the properties of digital and video...they're very light sensitive. All the cameraperson need do is open the aperture.) I have seen them do it, on occasion. It should be easy to do by just darkening the image and eye-matching it. It's probably more than they want to bother with, most of the time.

I have a question, and I bet maybe @GameSetAndMath knows the answer and likely others, too. Since we're likely to see more and more of it, with the new rule, how is the lucky loser chosen? Is it some combination of when they lost and how many games won, or by ranking?

EDIT: I found it:
  • Highest-ranked player to lose in the final round of qualifying for a tournament, but still ends up qualifying because of a sudden withdrawal by one of the players already in the main draw. In Grand Slam events, one of the four highest-ranked losers in the final qualifying round is randomly picked as the lucky loser.

What do I know? :) I mean, they must be using something to make it look like daylight but it is not. A "real" image every now and then would be nice, no?

:-)2 They don't actually "do" much of anything, it's the way the camera "sees" it, when they let the light in. Obviously, it makes for a more enjoyable viewing experience on TV, if they're going to keep playing, anyway. But I do agree I get tired of hearing them tell me how much darker it actually is than what it looks like on television, if they're not going to show it to us. They could do it at a changeover, and then at the end of the match, when it's suspended for darkness. BTW, I hope they've budgeted for lights in their new Roland Garros complex.

I watched Nole's match until he was broken back for 2-2 in the second set, by which time I had enough of tennis so i went to bed. I guess Nole will be more focused from now on and his matches will be more watchable. His opponent was Munar , young Mallorcan who's Nadal's student. He's a real human wall and certainly future top 20, if not better.

Duci's match started only later so I didn't see it, but looking at the result, I guess Duci missed the chance to win it in 3 sets and then he ran out of energy and lost the last 2 sets. He gave an interview in Serbian several days ago in which he said something funny, I'll parafraze "Everyone tells me how big I became, but I never lift anything heavier than 3 kilos in the gym. I do some back exercises though. Perhaps they made me look taller."

All these five setters. Everybody in the bottom half is killing each other so they can be beaten in the final by Nadal. Does Djoke look like he can make it out of his half?

I'm just watching some of the replay now. He's being broken by Munar and having troubles on the serve, but he got out of it in straights. Not playing convincing tennis, yet. To me it seems like Thiem and Zverev have the more rugged path to the SFs. If Djokovic wins the next 2 rounds and starts gaining confidence and playing better, he'd be the pick to make the F, and maybe not too badly beaten up at that point. If the finalist is Sasha or Dominic, they may well be.

I looked up Munar. He was runner up at Junior RG final to Andrey Rublev in 2014, and won doubles in 2015 Junior RG, so maybe he is the future of Spanish clay tennis.

He's the future of any tennis. It's simply unbelievable what he can return back and how he can win points from practically any disposition. He also has great service, which can be only more useful on faster surfaces. There are quite long (15') highlights on youtube where you can see some of that if you missed the match, though the highlights are obviously Nole biased.

I came back home from the work and I got the bad surprise that my AC is not working so tomorrow which is my day off I can imagine to be at home all day weating the technician to fix it grrrrr
I’m impressed with Munar, this young player has a good future if he keeps trying to improve which takes a lot of work and dedication, then he could go far, very far :good:

Duci's match started only later so I didn't see it, but looking at the result, I guess Duci missed the chance to win it in 3 sets and then he ran out of energy and lost the last 2 sets. He gave an interview in Serbian several days ago in which he said something funny, I'll parafraze "Everyone tells me how big I became, but I never lift anything heavier than 3 kilos in the gym. I do some back exercises though. Perhaps they made me look taller."

I saw the entire match, even if I had my lap top on my lap and was trying to work at the same time. You got it completely right. Lajovic was by far the better player on the first three sets and lost the second by making wrong decisions and getting tight at the wrong time in the end (part of the game, I know). But he was outplaying Zverev and it was fun to see the surprise of the commentators (I was seeing it on FoxSportsAsia, american commentators, don't know who) with his play. They came up with a barrage of "backhand from the gods", "a painting of a backhand", "his backhand sings", so on and so forth. It seems they never saw the guy play and were really suprised. Actually they "explained" the fact that Zverev was being outplayed by saying that he too should be surprised with Lajovic's level.

Then came sets 4 and 5. By set 5 Lajovic was completely spent, at one time he felt a cramp while running to a ball (when the guy grabs his muscle during the point still trying to reach for the ball you know that he is not "Andy Murraying" it). Beginning of the fourth I guess it was both, he felt that he could win it and let it slip from there. In Madrid he lost to Anderson in similar conditions, so he needs to step up on this. But if you look at his last tournaments, he is only being stopped by top players (and has beaten a few) in very competitive matches, so he is surely playing above his ranking.
