Khachanov gained notice last year, when he was one of the youngest players to finish in the top 100, ranking #53 for the year at age 20. He won Chengdu, an ATP 250, in October. He started slow this year, but has been playing a bit stronger of late. He's #39 in the line rankings after reaching the 4R of Roland Garros. As he just turned 21, he's eligible for Milan - he's #3 in the Race rankings.
I just created a Race to Milan thread. https://www.tennis-prose.com/tennisforum/threads/next-gen-race-to-milan.5476/
I know we have a "Young Guns" one, but I thought it might help. I was surprised that Carol hadn't pegged Khachanov yet. It's actually an interesting list, to see them rated, and some names I recognize are farther down than I expected them to be.

If Zverev qualifies for London, then will he play Milan too? Milan is the week before London. I'm guessing there are no ranking points available for Milan.

I know that's already been talked about, so, if he qualifies for both he could play both. I don't know about ranking points for the NextGen. That would be wrong if there weren't, no?

I think the opposite - it would be wrong if there were!

Why? Because it's a manufactured tournament? But the ATP is making revenue and a lot of publicity off their backs. Presumably they'll be making money, too, but why not some points? Obviously, not 1500. But why not at the rate-scale of, say, a 500?

This is patently untrue, and you should know it. I saw him at the USO in 2006, and the ritual involved also pulling up his socks, and more ball bouncing. He's speeded it up by everyone's estimation. Rushing another player on your serve is a tactic that is sometimes used, but there's no rule against it. Slow play is not more gamesmanship than that is.

But this is really beside the point. You love to take everything you find about Nadal and use it a some example of his despicable character. 3 pages of this, on a thread about a tournament that one images your for is low, with Roger not in. Enough. For the record, I think the time at the Majors should be the same as at the other tournaments, i.e., 25 seconds.

Actually it's not untrue. Here's proof. He was way less annoying when he first came on tour in terms of stalling. He served much more promptly with no annoying delays.

And he knows he is trolling ( it had to be said) , and it continues on and on..he doesn't care that he is more annoying than any of his ill perception of gamesmanship from any player..maybe someone will ignore him because he seeks a confrontation to distract from One tennis player's quest to win another championship.

I don't like it because it gives them opportunities for points that other players don't get. You might say the same about the YEC, but those 8 got there purely on merit whereas in Milan, it is largely based on age.

How many points do they earn to win the championship..it shouldn't be more than 250 points because it's only a gimmick for the ATP is tryin to promote the next tier of great players due to the enormous dominance of the big 4,plus Stan

See, Milan has points kept aside exclusively for the NextGen that others cannot participate in at all. You have a common ranking system for senior and NextGen players. Why then should we have an exclusive NextGen point-carrying tournament play a role in it?

I am not a fan of this.

P.S.: And I am stating this point irrespective of the number of points at Milan. Even 5 points is not right.
As far as WTF is concerned, anybody by merit can come into it, after all. So there's the issue.

Either the NG Tournament should have zero points or it should be scrapped. Anything else is just not acceptable. I don't understand the necessity of this tournament. Youngsters in the past did not need anything like this to motivate themselves.

It should just be a appearance fee only incentive tournament

Agree with both of you. I can see why they put it on - the stars are getting older and they are trying to popularise the younger set. I get that.. but from a points perspective, no chance this tournament should give points out.

I am not a great fan of the NextGen finals idea -- in general I root against the NextGen players, with few exceptions -- and I also do not think it would be fair to give points in that tournament, but...

The ATP is a commercial entity. It sells a product. They came to the conclusion this was needed, given that they have a problem coming which is the big three retirement. I like the fact that they are thinking forward. They have people there, day in, day out, thinking how to keep things going. They have access to data I don't, they're there doing their job since forever, so I give them the benefit of the doubt, because they are, after all, looking after my own interest to have a popular ATP tour (which guarantees the existence of good players and world wide coverage of tournaments).

Oh thanks for that information, I have to say that I was lost about that player. It's going to be interesting to see him playing vs Muzz
Murray is not having a difficult time and seems to have his mojo

I haven't seen the match but I see Muzz has won pretty easy the 'new gem'. Good for him, I don't know if he will reach the finals in RG but if he is playing well he will be a tough contender in Wimbledon
