It doesn't, at all. I'm only a bit flummoxed by the fans who were mad that Roger pushed for it last summer by playing Montreal, and now are gaming for it, when it is clearly so much the last, of all the resume burnishers, that he needs. I'm just frankly surprised that they're so frantically doing the math. It really doesn't affect his legacy. Though, for sure, have fun with it.

I'm not one of them. I really don't give a hoot about Roger getting back to number 1. If my aspirations for him this year come to fruition, then #1 is inevitable anyway. If he's stupid enough to chase it then he totally deserves what he gets

Playing Dubai isn't overplaying as it is four weeks after AO and two weeks before Indian Wells. And I'd say #1 is a big deal because it is a record and it's also another shot against Nadal and Nole to a lesser degree that gramps is clowning them yet again just like in 2012 when those guys were in their primes.

With that said majors are still and always will be more important especially at this point. But playing Dubai doesn't jeopardize that as the next major is 4 months away and Roger probably won't even be playing it. It's not comparable to last year. What was so stupid about Montreal is that Roger went there without much or any serious practice and he fully intended to play both Montreal and Cincy. If he had done well at both he still may have done poorly at the USO just due to fatigue.

Can you share those aspirations?

I agree that Wimbledon and the US Open come first (and Roland Garros would be nice, while we're at it), but I'd love to see him reach #1 again - what an accomplishment at age 36!

If Fed gets to number one and win Wimby this year, would he hold these two records?

I agree with your general remarks. But Dubai is not two weeks before Indian Wells. In fact Indian Wells starts right after Dubai ends.
However, as IW is a 128 player draw and as it is a two week event, Roger won't be expected to play until Friday or Saturday of the
first week.

Win Wimbledon and win the USO. He'll be there or there about for other tournaments during the year, so I'm fairly confident that he would get #1 just getting those slams

Pretty much don't care about anything else this year :D

I'm not gonna lie...I'd love to see him win the French Open instead of the US Open and complete the double career Grand Slam...BUT...I don't think he'll play it...and even if he does I don't think he'd win it. Can you just imagine if he won the FO again? At 36? Haters' (ie, Nadal fans) heads would implode. Sigh...that's my little Roger windmill tilting...

My prediction - Roger skips Dubai but will get to #1 when Nadal loses 300 points by skipping Acapulco to be ready for Indian Wells and Miami... Bad news is...Roger's got 2,000 points to defend in IW and MIami so it could be a very short stay at #1...

Haha! In a perfect world maybe. But I'm over it. To be honest I would pick the USO as my first choice for him for the rest of the year. It's a goddamn insult he hasn't won it for 9 years

Grown-up response. You're treading on Cali territory here. He has spilt pages over how Djokovic should never have lost to Nadal at the USO in 2013. And those conversations don't even include Fed. You want to keep company with that?

Roger had a good start. And usually Nadal is his competitor in the no. 1 race. And Roger, has made a much better start. So, he has a start. He could finally become no. 1 anytime, even in the second half of the year. It's still hard court season that's coming up. And there will be favourable surfaces again starting July. So, he will have ample opportunities to achieve more silverware.

Roger should make sure he does well or at least better in the USO swing this time.

Only in your mind. You’re tell me if Rafa hadn’t won RG for 5 years it wouldn’t bother you? Get over yourself :)
Rafa has won RG 10 times (to date.) I don't think I'm the one that needs to get over myself. Are you mad about each individual loss by Roger in that last 10 years at the USO? Or do you just think, in general terms, he should have won more?

Are you seriously saying that Roger at the USO is the same as Rafa at RG? If so, you're delusional.

Lol! You see this is the problem. Your guy has such a lopsided slam portfolio it's difficult to come up with any other comparison. Or any other slam where he's shown dominance (none). Roger won the USO 5 times in a row, and has subsequently not won another. If you think Fed fans are happy about that, then you're the one who's delusional. Stop trying to make this into a thing. Apply some common sense please
