I think to Raonic in 2016 Wimby when he fell down.

I remember now... that was the exact moment I changed tack and thought he'd never win another major.

I think we were all in that same boat after that one. I did think he'd always be a contender at Wimbledon (still do of course) but the odds certainly seemed to be against him winning another major.

When this thread was started Fed was #155 among all players (including retired ones) in career five set record. He has come a long way since. They have not updated the page yet. But, according to my calculations he is now at #77.

Novak is at #10, Cilic at #24, Andy at #29 and Rafa at #40.

Borg at #4 and Rocket at #18,

Roget federer always Struggles in 5 set matchs 2014 Wimbledon final was one of the biggest Cloke have ever seen

He was down 2 sets to 1 and was never ahead in the 5th set. It's not like he was up a break and lost like your boy twice in the AO final :)

Before today, Federer has lost 4 matches being 2 sets up.
Once in Davis cup
Once in Year End Championships
Twice in GS in 2011

  • Lleyton Hewitt defeated Roger Federer 5-7 2-6 7-6(4) 7-5 6-1 in Davis Cup semis 2003.
  • David Nalbandian defeated Roger Federer 6-7(4) 6-7(11) 6-2 6-1 7-6(3) in Tennis Master Cup Final 2005.
  • Tsonga defeated Roger Federer 3-6 6-7(3) 6-4 6-4 6-4 in Wimbledon 2011 QF.
  • Novak Djokovic defeated Roger federer 6-7 4-6 6-3 6-2 7-5 in US Open 2011 semis.
But, the previous ones were to an opponent with better pedigree and/or when the opponent played lights out tennis.

A fucking pathetic stat. To have that happen more than once in a slam is appalling.

Continuing the update, Roger's 5 set record now stands at 30-20, leading to 60%, a very respectable figure now.

p.s. I am updating in new posts as OP is uneditable.

51. Fed loses to Kevin Anderson 6-2, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 4-6, 11-13 2018 Wimbledon QF.

Now Fed's record is at 30-21 58.82%.

He is something like 5-5 in 5 setters at Wimbledon, at least since 2003. And with 3 losses to the likes of Tsonga, Raonic and Anderson. Pretty disappointing stat.

That’s actually pretty darn good.

For who he is it is terrible. He had done well in 5 set matches since 2017 though. But considering some of the names he has lost to it's a bad mark.

His recent success in five set matches is somewhat misleading. The success was obtained by going to five sets (of course not intentionally) against weak players such as Youzny and Tiafoe etc in early rounds.

I had actually forgot about those, was thinking more of the big ones vs Nishi, Stan, Nadal and Cilic.

Add one more 5-set loss to the list.

52. Federer loses to Novak 7-6(5),1-6,7-6(4),6-4,13-12(3)

Now it is 30-22 for a 57.69%

After six five sets win in a row (from 45 to 50 in the list), he now has two losses in a row (51 and 52 in the list) both at Wimbledon last year and this year.
