^ That's Zverev's only game plan though. I quite like his game but he's nothing more than a ball basher to be fair. No plan b.
not entirely true. He's not afraid of the net and will journey forward and execute a volley even though it's not his forte.

I don't expect miracles now. It is over. Hope this bad serving phase ends with Montreal.

This match is over. Looks like some sort of health problem to be honest.

@Haelfix Yeah Fed isn't looking quite right in this set. I think maybe he should've not played this tourney and just went to Cinci as he originally planned.

Fed looks absolutely dead middle of 2nd set.
Where is that miraculous energy he had 5th set AO?

And it ends, Fed could not recover from bad serving whole week, hope all is well. Congrats to AZ, 2 masters for a youngster is a very good sign, I just didnt want it to happen against Fed :/. Oh well, off we go to Cincinnati

Can't say I'm too bummed about the result, although the speculations of a Roger injury are worrying. If he withdraws from Cincy then we know something more serious is up, otherwise we can hope this is just rust and a surging Zverev.

Federer tweaked his back. I am certain. By the end, his serves were so slow, and he was moving so badly, Zverev looked like Nadal out there in comparison to Roger. Terrible week. I hope it isn't serious.

Why can't it just be old age catching up to him; mon Dieu! Why do we always have to give an excuse to the Big 4 when they lose? Maybe he just got BEAT! Heaven knows he did the same to Nole in Rome! Sasha's just coming of age sooner than we thought! ;-) :ptennis:

Seems like angry unshaven Desperate Dan Fed got dropped by Gilette. Maybe that's why he's playing crap :D He looks much better scruffy though. Should really be looking to scoop up the 1000 points on offer here seeing as he reached the final playing pretty horrendous (due to no practice since Wimbledon) but can surely only turn things up a gear now if he can even be bothered.

Presumably this is sarcasm or a failed attempt at humor since Federer didn't renew his Gillette contract when it ended in the fall of 2015 - nearly 2 years ago. Not to nitpick your snark or anything like that...

So it looks like Roger may have sustained an injury in that 2nd set. He clearly wasn't moving to the ball or going after his serves. Wonder if he's now second-guessing his last-minute decision to play there - and if he'll pull out of Cincy so he'll have 2 weeks to recover - and practice, which he clearly needs! - before the US Open.

Good week . I am happy Zverev won, I like him a lot ! Finally some young guys bringing a breath of fresh air to the game.
Roger got his points, played some games, saw where his level is at and I am sure he will step it up a notch to at least B+ for Cincy and hopefully the A game for the Open.
I am seriously hoping PM is wrong though and there is nothing wrong with Roger's back. Otherwise a good week.

Nope; it wasn't competitive, but not in the direction you thought I'm sure! lol :lol6: :yesyes: :ptennis:
Actually, I have been waiting for this to happen since Halle.
I did not think Fed looked that good at Wimb, he just didn't run into the right assassin on the right day.
On my previous site, Fed fans were certain Fed would have beat Mueller (they knew this because they played the hypothetical match in their heads and saw it happen). I'm sure they think he would have beat Shap too.
Fed got Polanksy WC and Rafa, Shap WC. I wonder if Rafa hadn't played his 2016 self if he would have beaten Zverev.
Well now I'm talking like a fed fan.
Unless Fed is injured?
Then it's a different story.
Or for the very paranoid, changed his "nutrition"?

No, it was almost a walkover.

Yes, kidding. Those ads haven't been seen for quite some time now. He looks much better scruffy though. Definitely physically something not right there tonight and really hope he's ok by the USO.

He's doing to Fed what he did to Novak earlier this year. Let's see if Fed rebounds in the 2nd set. Novak could not raise his level enough to take a set.

I think it's clear that Roger hadn't played well all week. He even told Brad Gilbert in the pre-match interview that he needed to play better than he'd been playing. His serve was crap and he wasn't hitting the ball cleanly at all. Not practicing much the week before obviously was a problem, but the bigger problem was that the kid was hitting big and playing much better than he was. I think the kid used that Halle drubbing as fuel because Roger really didn't allow him to play his game. I expected a better match but given how bad Roger was playing all week - I wasn't surprised that he lost. Now the question is - how serious is the potential injury he may have sustained.

Sure, he's off the drugs lol. And without them he can't move and serves like one of the weakest WTA players.
