I said at this time last year that we would get definitive answer on the direction of Felix's career. Felix's results this year have convinced me that he just doesn't have what it takes. We usually know by 22, and definitively by 23, whether a prodigy is going to take that next step and fulfill the talent. This is why I say the same thing for Jannik Sinner now. I am almost 100% sure that 12 months from now, Sinner either will have won a slam or at least something of note, or he will have taken a huge step back and lost ground against the younger players (Rune, etc).
While it is good that Sinner has expectations, I do not think winning a slam in the next 12 months is a good barometer for him unless you expect him to be win 6 to 8 slams (I personally dont think that). I do think he should reach a slam final AND win Masters 1000 title(s) by end of 2024.

It is interesting that people have high expectations for Rune (rightfully so in my mind!), but if that is the case, then he should also reach a Slam final by end of 2024 season, right? Or does he get a pass next year too because he is only 20 years old?

Rune's gone off the boil! He's rushing, making UFE's, & going down in flames fast! I want to like the guy since he has all the talent in the world, but he can't help being in the same egotistical vein as Alcaraz! They have a need to get the audience involved, exalting their appreciation that they're playing! Giron serving for the match up 2 breaks, 5-2! He drops an easy break to Holger, now 3-5 Rune scraping & trying for a comeback! :astonished-face: :fearful-face:

30 year old Quialfer Marcos Giron gets just the 2nd top win of his career defeating Rune #6 62 46 63 to reach the last 16. Biggest career win.
What a day of upsets in Toronto!

I don't get it, are you saying the 20 year old Rune and the soon to be (or is) 22 year old Sinner are on the exact same trajectory?

You do realize Sinner has played in the main draw of 15 slams as opposed to Rune in only 8 ?

Through 2025 AO Holger Rune will still be 21.

Pleased with Sinner's first match in Toronto, playing against Matteo for the first time, he will face Andy Murray in his next match

Commies say neither Christensen nor Patrick was on deck this week. So he's coachless right now and it showed.

Fokina was smart. He sat in the stands through Zverev previous match and scouted him closely . Smart move
That is sly from him. Fokina is exciting to watch (unlike his opponent), he can rip the ball from the baseline and is no stranger to impossible shots. He probably looked up to the guys like Monfils.

Oh, well Rune self destructed I was surprised to see that quite frankly, though Giron served well and never really let Rune into the match

What happened to my dawg
Which one? if you are referring to Felix, I read after the match he lost, he said the onus is on him, not his coaches, which I agree with. To me a lot of it has to do with a 'lack of confidence and he has looked tense to me on court in his last 2 matches, of course going out in first rd matches dosent help your confidence at all, his serve has been lacking when it counts, lets see how he fares in Cinncy,
