Poor or Not,

Rafa just won his 319th career clay court win versus just 24 losses......not bad stat.....;)

yes, and finally anytime now (if not already) rafa will be on Wikipedia page "open era records, mens singles"..most clay wins list.

Not even close. He is currently at #8. The person at #1 has more than double the
match wins as compared to Rafa. Rafa will probably not achieve it even by the time he retires.

Here is the leader list for most clay matches won.

1. Argentina Guillermo Vilas 644
2. Austria Thomas Muster 422
3. Spain José Higueras 376
4. United States Eddie Dibbs 368
5. Spain Carlos Moyá 337
6. Czechoslovakia Ivan Lendl 329
7. Ecuador Andrés Gómez 322
8. Spain Rafael Nadal 319
9. Argentina José Luis Clerc 301
10. Spain Emilio Sánchez 298

How about winning percentages? Only 24 losses compared to Vilas?

Vilas is untouchable with that stat

And don't you think that to be on Wikipedia as the most clay or HC or grass wins list is unbelievably great?
But most incredible would be if one of them would be on that list as the most all surfaces wins and I don't know anyone

It seems that years ego the players played many more matches on clay than at the present?
Anyway, let's go to see how many matches on clay Rafa will play and win before he will retire but from now he is considered for many people the best clay player of the tennis history, it means something isn't?

A

auto-pilot

The biggest achievement on clay is obviously the number of French Open titles, and he's got 3 more than 2nd placed Borg now.
As for overall clay matches won, he can't get to #1 but if he starts playing more clay events (he might, because after age 30 he might stop playing hardcourt entirely and end up playing clay events later in the year) he might reach Muster's 422.
But the US Open is always going to be tempting for him, so he probably won't play extra clay events.

Nadal doesn't need to add anything to his resume. He is the best clay court player ever. His French Open wins and his winning percentage on the surface have cemented that. It may never be broken. There could be a new grass court king and hard come up in the future, but it's hard to imagine anyone ever repeating again what Nadal has done. And he isn't even finished yet.

Mind-boggling.

This is not a "Is Rafa the best clay court player ever thread". There was a specific
question that was asked about the most clay court wins and I gave a matter of fact
answer, that's all.

My bad. These Nadal threads just suck you in and there is no escape. Back to the Rio!

Rafa's clay court winning % is 93.0%???

BTW Rafa has the longest single surface winining streak (clay courts) 81 matches 2005-2007

You are trying to compare Vilas to Rafa??? go ahead.

auto-pilot

I wonder how big the clay court will be that they use for Rio Olympics.
Hopefully they make it the same size as Court Philippe Chatrier.

Tommy Robredo is struggling. He lost to Andreas Haider-Maurer from Autria, 2-6, 3-6.
