I don't think that Rafa will go too far at the Olympics but he will carry the Spanish flag which right now is his best wish. Playing singles and doubles will be a good practice and test for his wrist with views to the USO

Ferrer says Rafa is hitting the ball and moving extremely well.

I don't have any doubt about moving well because he probably has done a lot of exercises with his legs but he has been two months under a wrist treatment without hitting one single ball. I think he started to practice just two weeks ego but you never know how well mentally and physically he could be and maybe he is going to do better that we think, Rafa is Rafa ;)

Rafa is unlike Fed, djoker and Murray, he needs to have a lot of time to get his rthymn and timing. Fed and Djoker can crawl out the bed, get on the court and after 30 mins, they can be at top form. Our champion isn't built that way. I don't expect much from Rafa at the games but maybe a weaken field may help him for a few rounds

Yes, he needs lots of time to get into rhythm. That is why, he is playing in all three events. In whichever event he lasts the longest, he will surely get at least a bronze medal.

He may win the gold medal for men's doubles

Murray has been chosen to carry the 'Team GB' flag - to much consternation and outcry I might add !

Whilst happy for him as an individual I don't see that giving him the 'honour' is anything more than playing up to the fact that he is probably the most recognised athlete in the camp and thus is an act of marketing as opposed to giving the honour to someone perhaps from a lesser sport who could have been a face for those amateur / low funded sports that rely on the Olympics to be their showcase.

To that end I am not too happy with Phelps as the US flag bearer as well, but more so than Murray because I am not sure he represents the highest ambassadorial attributes either.

This is a different generation..a known pothead like Phelps is foregiven for his transgressions whereas football players are constantly miligned ..no big deal..let caveman looking swimmer carry the flag..who cares

Novak gets Delpo in the first round. All things considered I don't think there is a harder 1st round opponent (for either man !)

If this occurred, seems like a comparable "Masters" event; nowhere near the quality of a SLAM! :dodgy:

Relax, it's only a best of 3 mickey mouse event till the final. In tennis the best thing you can win is a slam and everything else is well down the list.

Hmmmm, you should ask the players if to win a GM which is the best achievement for their own Country is not as good as to win a GS

I think you know the answer already. Can't believe why so many people here see the Olympics as something so great. Ask yourself this, would Nadal, Federer, Djokovic or Murray prefer to trade a gold medal for a slam? Of course not. History will remember their slam count. Murray's 2nd Wimbledon and 3rd slam is about 10 times better than his Olympic gold. Or would Nadal prefer to have 13 slams instead of 14, thus making him below Sampras and only 1 ahead of Djokovic? Would Federer take a gold medal and have 16 slams? Not a hope is the answer to all the above. It's nice to have but it's nothing like a slam and the fact that's it's only best of 5 in the final backs that up even more.

But it's not about to prefer or to trade a GM for a GS, it's about to be able to win several GS and also at least one Olympic Golden Medal during their whole career which is the maximum
