Btw have you seen the pathetic field at the Olympics? And yet you say you can't win a gold medal by fluke? You can win because of the extremely weakened field for one thing and it's much easier to win than a slam because only the final is best of 5 unlike having to win 7 best of 5s in a slam. Keep dreaming that the Olympics is so hard to win.

How many gold medals can a tennis player win @ the Olympics v how many Slams can a tennis player win,in a tennis players career, pathetic 2 think a Slam means more:huh:

Sigh another one. Depends on luck I guess. Venus Williams is playing her 5th Olympics, she could have 5 if she won all 5. So you think Nadal would trade his gold medal to be stuck at 13 slams which puts him just 1 ahead of Djokovic and 1 less than Sampras? Pull the other one. It's nice to have on top of everything else but to think a gold medal is worth more than a slam is absolutely laughable when this sport is graded by grand slams. The Olympics is a best of 3 mickey mouse event till the final.

Jaziri served for the match vs. Tsonga and got broken at 5-4, then lost the set 7-5.

I see poor Berankis got double bageled. Must surely be injured to lose that badly 'cos he has a decent serve and isn't likely to lose that badly otherwise.

Front , I don't recall you expressing any disdain in regards to the Olympics prior to Roger's withdrawal or when Roger played in the gold medal round in 2012. If not, why are you so adamant with your opposition now.

Only 10 of the top 20 are playing this time round, AP. It truly is a pathetic field. It was overall a much stronger Olympic field in 2012 but that doesn't change the fact that it's best of 3 till the final and isabelle's claim that it's better than a slam is only down to her hatred of Federer and not based on any
logic whatsoever. She knows damn well Nadal and Murray would not lose a slam for their medals.

Wait, are you saying that Novak, Muzz, Nadal, Monfils, Tsonga, Ferru, Delpo, Cilic, Nishi, Kohsch, Simon and etc etc is a pathetic field? are you serious? where in the world are you? maybe we can tell that most of them are not playing their best for different reasons and they were playing better in 2012 but if you are saying that because Federer is not playing this time I could say the same about 2012 because Nadal didn't play but it would be as absurd as what you have said

Let's see whether Monfils shows up wanting to win or entertain. I think and hope for the former.

No doubt in my mind that GS means more than Olympic gold. Who can honestly say he can remember the winners of the past several OG? If rarity translated to importance, we should be able to recall the medalists better than the GS winners.

In any case, let's focus on sending positive thoughts to Potro. I would love to see him win gold.

Nadal looked so happy carrying the flag. The courts are slow. He has a good chance of a medal if healthy.

Poor Carol, it always comes down to Federer doesn't it. I didn't say anything about Federer, I said 10 of the top 20 are not playing so yes, that is pathetic. You still have 9 more missing with Federer.

Tell me what players playing in 2012 were better than the ones are playing now

Have you forgotten 10 of the top 20 aren't playing here or is this a trick question? Off the top of my head I can only remember Nadal not playing last time round from the top 20 but there definitely were not 10 of the top 20 missing. That's a joke of a field. And Tsonga isn't going to beat anyone good here, neither is Ferrer who is terrible lately, neither is Monfils. Del Potro is nothing like he was because of his wrist issues, Nishikori is terrible against Djokovic and Murray so who does that leave? It's not a strong field at all.

I agree it's not a strong field but it's not something new, it's happening for the last two years and not just in this Olympics but also in all the tour, MS and GS where those 10 more players have played. But it's what it is, injuries and also the poor consistence of the young ones don't help at all so we could say that the Tour is pathetic too, isn't? then who cares if all those 20 players are playing or only 10, at least we can say that the best players are playing (only Federer is out)

We are saying the current tour is pathetic too :) Very much so. That isn't even up for debate as it's the weakest era in decades. Again, only half the top 20 players are playing in the Olympics so the best players aren't all there. 10 are missing.

Yep, but the most important thing is that the 10 best ones are playing same like Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, don't you think? so who cares the others 10 :popcorn

How are the 10 best ones playing? There's no Federer, Wawrinka, Berdych, Raonic, Kyrgios, Thiem, Isner, Gasquet. Can't recall who else is missing but that's a lot already.

Ok, Federer, Wawrinka and Raonic.....but Berdych, Kyrgios, Thiem, Isner and Gasquet? they are doing much better watching the Olympics on TV :snicker

Can't disagree there :) Never know with Berdych though. He makes quarters of slams in his sleep so he might have got a medal here. But for any sport to have 10 of the top 20 missing is still a terribly weak field in any case even if many of the them are weak whether playing or watching tv as you said :D

About the only match I'd actually like to watch (Djokovic v Del Potro) is on at 12:30am and work tomorrow. Typical :nono
