I don't see Rafa winning this match, his mind is in the GM doubles which is almost in his hands and he needs to be ready and rested

Rafa is playing extremely passive. He has to attack this guy and he will eventually fold and crumble.

While I'm surprised with the score, I am not surprise that Bellucci has a blazing start. Like I said last night, Olympics just give these less ranked players some extra adrenaline against the top players. Also, 2 out of 3 helps them mentally.

It will be interesting to see on how Nadal starts the 2nd set...

Belluci has often got blazing start and then faded away. Let us see whether he can continue this for some more time. I think he can this time.

There are two things, or this is happening because the accumulation of all the matches (singles and doubles) he is playing or like I said before his mind is 100% in the doubles which I don't think he should because maybe he can't win the doubles either

It seems like Nadal is tired...he is just trying to survive this match.

...tired, OLD, and run down! His saving grace is the gutlessness of today's tour "also-rans" and losers! They've allowed 4 players to rule for 10 years, only taking a handful of majors or Masters titles outside the "Big 4!" :nono

Agreed, he has his mind on winning the gold medal for his boyfriend

Good win for Nadal. At the very least, he would play for a bronze medal in singles. Now, he could focus on winning the Gold Medal in doubles with Marc Lopez.

By the way, with that win, he has now 800 career victories in singles matches!

And that's extraordinary how he is helping Lopez to win his first GM. I think he knew that he wasn't ready for the singles but maybe it could be easier to win the doubles and that's exactly his main purpose besides it would be his second Olympic GM. I don't think that many players would do something like that, no way!

JMDP is up a set. Rafa vs. Delpo will be a great match to watch. I will take Delpo on that though (unless of course Rafa constantly bombards JMDP's broken back hand).

Rafa will defeat JMDP if he doesn't wears himself emotionally out playing doubles with his sweetie

It is match between two players who are often injured. Incidentally, this time both are coming back from wrist injuries. Which wrist will hold up?

Gotta think Nadal will win to be honest. He hasn't had any wrist surgery and he'll punish poor Juan's fubar backhand.

What a completely useless pr1ck Monfils is. Even when 4-0 up in that TB I just knew he'd lose.

It's a darn shame that the FIRE doesn't burn to fiercely within Gael:nono..I think he blew the biggest opportunity of his career..what a waste

I think we have a deserving set of semifinalists in JMDP, Rafa, Samurai and Andy. I don't really care who gets what medal among these folks. We will not have the weird situation of some unknown guy winning a medal as it has happened many times before.

Okay Miss Carol.. my wifey told me to be Nice to Mr Rafa.. she saw Marc Lopez come over to Rafa who was sitting in his chair and give him a brotherly kiss on the forehead.. she says there isn't anything wrong with that.. So I will not make fun of Rafa's emotions anymore.
