There are rumors that Serena is questionable for Singapore due to injury. So,
Angelique and Makarova should continue to fight without giving up for the 9th spot.
In case Serena is forced to withdraw, it looks like Kerbie would take her slot.

p.s. Despite the rumors, I think and hope that Serena will make it.

I don't see her pulling out. Even if they have to use double strapping and give her constant pain medication, Serena will not miss the opportunity to secure the #1 ranking.

I realize that notion,I just hope both players take the time to rest and prepare for Singapore just my thoughts.Maybe Rubydo has some insider information regarding Bouchard if she is still intent on playing at Linz.

My German is almost non-existent, but I think the Linz guys, on their official site, in a news bit on 2 Oct, say that Mama Bouchard has given the OK via phone to the tournament director.
The mistery to me is why we don't have yet a main draw for Linz (I still think Kerbie has a 1% shot, and maybe that's why they are so slow).

I am checking with one of the best writers on tennis in Canada about Eugenie. From what I see, Eugenie is confirmed for Linz and Luxembourg, before Singapore. She does not want to sit back and be idle, as was the case after Wimbledon.

Personally I feel she has made Singapore she should use this time to rest a bit and prepare for that event. She picked up that thigh injury, after she won Toyko, then her performance against Sharapova at Beijing was just low par.Just my thoughts.

Sharapova winning the YEC would be bizarre. I'm not saying she hasn't had great points this year. It's more that it would kind of complete a narrative that most of the players who did really well this year (winning grand slams) also had huge stretches of the year where they played very mediocre tennis.

That's true. That statement involves all 4 winners of these year's grandslams. This season haven't had any clear dominant female player. Let's see what happens in the YEC.

Serena has a great record against all the players going to Singapore...if she turns up that title is hers to lose...there wont be a little known player playing lights out tennis.

According to a report from Kamakshi Tandon 6th October

Sharapova said she will not be taking a w/card for Moscow, she said she is sticking to her original schedule.
"I don't think I've ever done that in my career, add a few tournaments to my schedule to gain points,in order to find a certain ranking.Never in the juniors, never in the pros."

"Most important is to be healthy".

Fashion, thanks for the update. That is good news.

Pova, thanks for giving Serena a chance to remain number one a bit longer

Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro, champions in Stanford and finalists at another pair of Premier events in Madrid and Tokyo have become the seventh team to qualify for the doubles at Singapore. They havent even played the whole season together-they only started in Miami but Muguruza and Suarez Navarro have come on strong over the six or seven months since then, and now making it in their first try together to qualify.

Serena admitted that she cares when she regained number one. I assume she was not lying when she said that.

Media gives Pova so much attention already. There would be endless talk of how she fought back from shoulder injury to the pinnacle of the sport. I rather she not be ranked one.

I agree. Serena does care about the no 1 spot. She surely doesn't want to lose it Maria. For that matter, probably anybody but Maria.

I dont think she cares about pova that much..:nono..she is just way better than pova in every area.Serena has stronger self will, she has endured racism from other players and the media...to succeed in such a hostile environment takes a very strong human being and to never give up against those odds is truly an inspiration..pova has almost every draw handed to her and very positive media coverage from the media.
I am more inspired by Serena and Venus journey than pova s siberian tale..

Well, she would rather lose number 1 and have a shot at all the slams next year than play to keep number 1 and have to sit out because of further injuring herself. Next week, Serena passes Hingis and becomes number 5 in terms of weeks at number 1.

We have almost reached that point of time in the calendar. Surely Serena will not play
Maria before WTF. 2004 WTF was the last time Maria beat Serena. Now comes the official
10 year anniversary of that episode.

It would be an anti-climax if Maria ends up being YE #1 (with or without Serena in WTF).

I agree. It would feel like a b it of a default if Maria became number 1. I can't remember any point this year (other than the two weeks of Roland Garros) where Maria dominated. The last few years it's been so clear that Serena dominated for huge stretches of the year or the entire year. Even Vika's year at number 1 was VERY dominant for her. She dominated about half the year. Maria has had a decent year with flashes of brilliance but that's it.
