Just a few interesting facts I have checked, then went to the WTA website for confirmation

Serena's current leads is 1965 points, but as defending Champion at the YEC,she has to defend 1,500 points.Sharapova, meanwhile has none to defend missed last years tournament through injury.

Seeing Maria is guaranteed to be seeded No 2 in Singapore, she will be kept apart from Serena in the round robin stage.

That is quite lucky to be out of Serena's range at least until the semis for Maria. I wonder what the groups will look like in Singapore. I am hoping Petra, Ana and Caroline end up in Maria's end.

are you talking about the same player that the media praises for her so called mental strength...:laydownlaughing...WTA will put Wozniacki in Serena s group,Ivanovic and Botchard.Maria will get an easy ride...like Halep,Kvitova and Radwanska..
I hope Serena plays and wins a hatrick....

No, Halep can't be in the same group as Kvitova and Wozniacki in the same as Ivanovic. That's just not possible.

Fashion, thanks for sharing the good news about Serena's knee. The finals would not have been as fun with her sidelined.

Are Serena and Pova the only ones who can theoretically end the year as number one?

Yes, in the race Petra is No 3 and is 1549 pts behind Serena. As she is not going to play Moscow next week there is no chance to be No 1 after YEC for her.

BTW the race for the second alternative will reach its climax in Moscow next week with five players-Makarova,Cibulkova,Errani,Jankovic and Pennetta in the running. All five players have entered Moscow

Personally out of that group I like Cibulkova and Pennetta but in terms of standing of chance of actually doing well in Singapore if chosen as an alternative, I'd like to see Cibulkova.

Anyone of those player's I dont mind except the Grunter Errani.....

Can someone summarize how the groups are formed? Is it done like a regular draw?

As far as I know each pair 3-4 5-6 and 7-8 are drawn in the 2 groups.

Once No 1 (group A) and no 2 (group B) they separate the groups

No 3-8 are drawn in pairs as follows,
3 and 4,the first no drawn is put into A and the second is put into B.5 and 6,the first no drawn is put into A and the second no in B.Repeat fro no 7 and 8.

Just a few facts regarding Petra Kvitova regarding her chances at Singapore this year, apart from Serena Williams and Sharapova,I feel Petra could be the Dark Horse at Singapore.

Kvitova has qualified for the WTA finals for the fourth straight year.

Kvitova is 0-5 against WTA finals No 1 seed Serena Wiliams and 2-6 against No 2 seed Sharapova.

Kvitova's 258 aces this season was the fourth-most on the WTA as of October 6.

Kvitova wrapped up her pre-Singapore campaign by reaching her fourth final of the year in Beijing, where she lost to Sharapova.Kvitova will go into the WTA finals having won 14 of her last 16 matches.Kvitova got her game going with her second Wimbledon title and her success on hard court in the Summer and Fall.

Kvitova's first Wimbledon title in 2011 preceded her lone WTA finals title later that season in Istanbul.

Congratulations to Kudryavtseva and Rodionova became the eighth and last team to qualify at Singapore.
Kudryavtesva and Rodionova had to win the Tianjin Open to book their spots, that exactly what they did defeating Cristea and Klepac

This is was their third WTA Doubles Title, also won Premier-level titles at Brisbane and Dubai.

Both the Russian and the Australian will be making their career debuts at the WTA finals.

I thought only top 4 doubles teams play in WTA finals. Am I wrong?

In 2014 the doubles draw competition draw was increased from four pairs to eight teams.( per Wika Website in regards to the formation of the YEC).

If Cibulkova wins her match against qualifer Vittalia Diatchenko at the Moscow tournament, she will clinch second alternative spot in Singapore. If she loses Makarova will clinch the second alternative position in Singapore.

Per WTA website.
