Personally, I thought he was playing extremely well first few games and it wasn't looking good for Roger.
I don't mind admitting it, I was bloody worried last year. I wasn't impressed with Roger all through the tournament. I still say he stole that win. I'm not complaining :D

Likewise. Grass is a very difficult surface to play catch up on if you're playing a guy with a big serve and you tend to throw in a muck service game out of nowhere all too often, which sadly Roger does. I'm also in the same camp as you and think he's been playing just enough to barely scrape through the last 2 tournaments to not expend unnecessary energy and potentially get injured, but I'd still rather see him step up a bit more. Will try and catch some tennis tomorrow if possible. The Queens final should be very good too but there's a high chance I'll miss both :(

Marin beats Nick

Unfortunatley, this means Nick will be seeded #17 (unless some one above him drops out) and lose considerable draw advantage. However, Nick will not face any of top 8 before R16 and so he should be able to win at least three matches at Wimbledon (even though his third win will be technically an upset as he will face a player seeded 9 through 16) if not more.

This is how Novak moves now. Let Fed be warned. Don't want to see another final like in 14 or 15.

It's kind of funny that I'm usually the pessimistic one but last year I wasn't worried at all that Federer would lose the final. My thoughts were that it'd take something special from Cilic to even make it a major fight. I liked Roger's form and nothing against Cilic's ability, I just felt there was no way he was losing another chance at a record 8th. I also was pretty confident going into the AO final but didn't think it was a slam dunk like the Wimbledon final last year.

This year is different. Even if Halle ends up just being a non-indicator of Roger's form I feel like he is just not quite as strong as last year. If it's a rematch in the final I'd favor Roger slightly. The worry for me is that Cilic could be in Roger's half and I think he'd have a better shot in a semi vs. a final. And frankly if Roger doesn't bring it up 3 gears higher than Halle he will lose early.

He'd quietly put himself in a great position before the final, including in the tune-ups. I'm just saying that the blisters, I guess, then the nerves or whatever got to him. I'm sure he'll be looking to make up for that performance. Whether he can or not is another question.

Lol, he didn't put himself in position to do anything. He lost a final to fricken Feli Lopez and came into the Wimbledon final an enormous underdog. He wasn't winning under any circumstance, you just hoped like hell for it.

Novak’s form this week will wipe the court with Cough drop

I wouldn't say that, even the match with Chardy today was semi-competitive. Novak had a nice win vs Grigor but faced no one aside from that.

If you remember no one was looking at Cilic going into Wimbledon last year. I was telling folks that he was having a good grass season and he was likely to go deep. I was right about that. Call him an enormous underdog, but he made the final and folks have said they were worried about him.

I haven't watched any matches at Queens. You may well be right about his form, but his biggest test is mental now. Don't forget this will be his first title since what... 2016? It's a big big deal for him.
Its something about seeing Roger and Rafa across the other side of the net that brings out the best in Novak and vice versa..Those 3 may go down as the greatest 3 of all time and they're all are exceeding extra expectations we could have ever imagined ..

I think everyone knew he was a big threat to make the final but you're acting as though he had a decent shot in it without the blisters. And he didn't, he was an enormous underdog vs a guy on his best surface that had won 27 straight sets and was already 30-2 on the year.

FB and Front may have been worried, and I won't speak for them, but gun to head I'm sure they figured Roger was going to win that match.

Novak has been pretty weak the two times he's seen Rafa since the start of 2017. He's done well to dodge Roger the last 1.5 years after getting gifts from the old man in 2013-2016

No, I'm saying that I thought he'd go deep at Wimbledon, no more. You're sneering that he lost to Lopez at Queens. Stop moving the goal post.

I'm not moving goalposts, it's clear from your post that you think he was in decent position going in to win the final last year. I'm just telling you it wasn't ever going to happen and there is no need to make excuses for Cilic

Somehow you've failed to notice that I've never liked Cilic, that I don't root for him, and I didn't think he was going to win that Wimbledon. My point was simple, and in keeping with this thread. I thought he was a sleeper last year and I'd pointed that out.

OK, my tennis channel is on the fritz again. I got the rundown on Federer/Coric a bit from the other thread. I guess this match was pretty good...anyone watch? What made the difference in the 3rd?

Congrats to Marin on winning his 2nd Queens Club title and 18th overall.

Well I saw a decent amount of the final. Novak missed a mp in the second and also messed up the tiebreak. Overall a bit disappointed. I hope queens still plays faster than Wimbledon.
