I doubt that. Deliciano is generally well known as a good grass player. He got a WC into Queens based on his previous performances at Queens and he has proved himself by reaching the finals in a tough field which was considered wide open at the beginning. To boot, he has reached the doubles finals as well.

More than playing with Andy being a factor, Judy might have pulled some ropes for Deliciano if at all some extraneous thing is involved.
And you think the Wimby Committee will grant the wish of Judy who openly lusts after Feli over the fact that Lopez chose to play doubs w/ Andy and has honored his commitment to their native son by not pulling out when he clearly could have to save himself for singles in Queens.

It's understandable that you say he's won favor, by virtue of helping Andy get this far in dubs at Queens, but you ignore that he's also won it on his own merits. Sure, he's gotten a lot of appreciation and attention for partnering Andy at Queens. But it doesn't negate the fact that he deserves a WC into MD W by way of his own merits, and recent heroics. It's sort of like people wishing that Dustin Brown would get one, but multiplied by his own actual accomplishments on grass, his historical ranking, his actual accomplishments on grass this year...and then Murray is the cherry on top.

They gave wild card to Baghdatis who is currently ranked 137. Deliciano is currently ranked 76 or so and will improve further if he wins tomorrow. It makes perfect sense to give wild card to Deliciano without considerations of his dealing with Murray family.

Normally top 104 players get direct entry. But, entry is based on the ranking list of six weeks before the start of Wimbledon. So, it is based on May 20 rankings. At that time he was ranked 108 and so missed the cut. But, it is customary to favorably treat players who missed the cut, but who makes it into top 100 before the tourney.

Deliciano has five grass court titles (which includes Queens twice) and possibly might get the sixth one tomorrow. That is the third highest among active players. Only Federer and Andy have more grass titles. Further, he has reached the QF of Wimby three times.

While they probably would have given him wild card anyway, perhaps they held it to put pressure on him not to withdraw from the doubles.

Whether or not they gave it to him for other reasons, he certainly deserves it by merit alone.

p.s. I think Judy is not just a regular Mom. She has some official position in LTA or some such thing I think and so may have some clout. I did not fact check this and so I may be wrong.

Yay, Feli! #113 in the world, WC, wins it for the 2nd time. I was getting a bit worried there, at the end, that he was too tired.

.

I got some data wrong as I posted it late last night. Deliciano has only four grass titles, two in Queens (including today's) and two in Eastbourne. Also, apart from Fed and Andy, Novak is also ahead of him in # of grass titles (by just 1).

But, the basic message remains the same.

There's grass, then there's Wimbledon! Equating Nole's 4 Wimbledon titles to FL's 2 Queens and 2 Eastbourne Chps is farcical!

Nobody is claiming Deliciano is on par with Novak. The point I was trying to make was that Feliciano's WC is fully deserved as he has more grass titles than any player outside of Big Four.
