Actually when a company or company CEO does something racist, even sometimes as simple as a racist tweet, they lose their job these days. And if not, then there are boycotts and big social pressure and the CEO decides to quit before the company is completely ruined. So yeah something is done.

No one has done as many disgusting & sleazy things as Wash'ton Football Team owners, Schneider & Indy's Irsay! They're still in power!

The bottom line is that Nadal is the GOAT and he is the perfect professional and gentleman! In fact he still hasn't broken one single racket in his whole career and doesn't behave like a brat! He also has built so many tennis academies all over the world, it's all meant to be. He is the ultimate tennis man. Instead of complaining and criticizing all the time you should try bowing to him instead. Try it you might enjoy it. Bow to Nadal. Come on you can do it! Yes you can. :bye:

The world is making it seem like Novak's the only professional athlete who's refusing to be vaccinated! Come on; that's just plain stupid!

But there are plenty of players who're in the same boat! Other players were deported from Australia, but his name was the one bandied about!
Basically all of the top 100 players in men's tennis are vaccinated, besides Novak, and as Margaret points out he was #1, though is not right now. Certainly all of the other men who played the AO, were. And he has come out as saying he won't be vaccinated. That matters. Actually, only ONE other player was deported from Australia for not being vaccinated, Renata Vorcova, a Czech player ranked 86, who was also originally allowed in due to recent covid positive, and subsequent negative. The one other person deported was an unnamed "official." There were NOT "plenty of other players in the same boat," and the only other one had her name "bandied about," too. Don't try to play fast-and-loose with the truth here.

Who said differently? I'm totally in the corner with people who live by credo of "Laissez Faire!" People have rights to make their own choices! If NFL owners don't want to hire a Black coach, IDK how you can force that issue!
OMG, with the starting in on Black coaches in the NFL. (Very cheap deflection.) Try to stick to the point.
We have strict rules concerning Covid here in the States! Djokovic can't play IW and Miami! Australia refused to allow Djokovic to play!
Indeed. His choice.
They just looked bad making it an international incident! Someone told Novak he had a loophole! He didn't fly down there without assurances from 1 of the 3 governing bodies! Someone gave him the ok! I just hope it doesn't hurt the event after such confusion!
It seems quite clear that Craig Tilley was trying to give him a loophole. Have you not read this thread at all? There are not "1 of 3 governing bodies." There is the federal Australian government that has immigration restrictions, and recent covid positive doesn't fulfill the requirement medical exemption. The fact that Craig Tiley, Tennis Australia and the Victoria government had a different opinion does not matter. Did you sleep through all of this? Someone (Tilley, most likely) gave him the wink and a nod to give it a try, but Djokovic has lawyers and advisors, so don't act like he was a lamb led to the slaughter. Please. He's a grown-up, a rich international athlete with a team behind him. They should have known what they were up against, and that they were rolling the dice.

As to the tournament, it seems to have survived quite nicely in spite of the kerfuffle.
I didn't watch much of it at all; esp. the final! It was BOGUS excluding the defending champion who was ready, willing, and able to play! No one can tell me any different with Nadal shamelessly gaining an advantage to have his double CGS! :astonished-face: :face-with-tears-of-joy::face-with-hand-over-mouth::facepalm:
Of course no one can tell you any different, if your mind is made up already. Though it's interesting how much you are willing to have an opinion about tennis that you didn't watch. You are wrong that Novak, the defending champion, was able to play. He knew the rules for entering Australia, and refused to conform to them. So he may have been "ready and willing," but he was not "able" That was his choice.

Though you didn't watch it, there was nothing shameful about how Rafa won the tournament and so the double career Grand Slam. It was actually a demonstration of great will, skill, and adaptability. There is no argument good enough to win Novak this tournament, had he played it. You're arguing for 7 matches that he didn't play, with the crowd clearly against him, and basically horrible prep. IMO, he wouldn't have made it to Nadal.

Djokovic fans conveniently forget that in the second half of last year he lost at the last 3 big events the Olympics, the USO and WTF all on hardcourt. Also this year he lost early in Dubai where he had big prior success. Djokovic fans were saying in Dubai after the first couple of matches how he will destroy the competition but then he lost easily.

The way Djokovic fans act as if the AO was a guarantee win for Djokovic is just so blind and wishful thinking. He has been very beatable ever since after Wimbledon last year. The bottom line is Nadal beat the best hardcourt player out there Medvedev, who crushed Djokovic in their last hardcourt slam final. Nadal has nothing to prove.

That he lost in Dubai is fairly understandable, due to lack of match play, but you make a good point as to how the big matches went in the 2nd half of his 2021.

There are no Djokovic fans around here, these days, except Fiero, and even he seems to be moving on to Carlos Alcaraz. Where are @BratSrbin and @Denis? Or even @MikeOne who has been championing Novak of late? I might understand them being away for now, given the fallowness of Novak's current status, but this is the MO of Novak fans all the time, around here...i.e., show up only when there's something to gloat about. Where are they to argue on his behalf, right now? Some fan base, meh, if you ask me.

That said, there are definitely Djokovic fans otherwise on the internet trying to claim a phantom victory for him in AO, if only he had played. Or to downgrade Rafa's win, in his absence. This is very cheap stuff. You say Nadal has nothing to prove. I would say he actually proved what he needed to...and in a big way.

I call them 'fair weather fans' as a true fan you stick with them in the good and bad times. As a Novak fan I have always found Don Fabio to be a very measured and fair Novak fan, though as you are aware he is in the Merchant Navy and away at sea, where the internet at times is not good, has problems logging on to TF..I have always found Denis to be fair as well, never had a problem with Denis.

Unlike Nadal fans who can go on and on about him even when he's not playing, I find no reason to keep talking about Novak if he isn't even on the tour at the moment! Making up discussions after a whole blog created would be even more excessive! There's already enough of that going on here and elsewhere! I can't speak on a lot of subjects since I'm not watching much in the way of news or sports! My latest obsession has been You Tube videos; esp. ones dealing with Police Audits! They are crazy! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy::astonished-face::yawningface:

Djokovic just played last week! If he had won I'm sure you & your fellow friends would be bragging about it all over the forum and saying how he's so amazing. However he couldn't even win a set off of the #123 player in the world so most Djokovic fans disappeared and hid out of shame. :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy: You on the other hand decided to stay in order to put down Rafa.:zippermouthface:

Good point about @don_fabio, and I don't count him in that group, at all. We know he's around when he can be. He's an actual tennis fan, as is Fiero. The rest are Djokolytes, and the flutter in on a prevailing Novak wind, then fly out again.

Also posted this on the ATP news thread, sorry admin if that’s wrong.

That’s a good thing. Common sense is prevailing in a lot of places in Europe. We began our first week without restrictions this week. Freedom is, to make sure your razor is sharp, it’s time to shave now, the masks are off!

I’m glad the French are doing this, and I hope the other belligerents around the world, like Canada, Austria, Italy, will grow up and smell The Science…

Yes , now it becomes a personal choice whether someone deigns to wear a mask where the mandates are coming down.

I’ve traveled in Asia pre-covid and its not a huge deal that some choose to wear masks in public. I know myself on airplanes and other public places the mask may still stay put.

I read tons of articles from France from today and they are only talking about the vaccine passport for activities such as restaurants, gyms, etc. not the country borders.

Isn't he a resident of Monte Carlo, unless covid rates rise, do you really think a citizen of Monte Carlo is going to have a hard time getting into France a month from now?

I'm pretty sure by the time of the FO Djokovic will be able to play. I'm just saying that the news today from France has nothing to do with the country borders and then a Djokovic fan journalist created some sort of a link to his participation. In Canada also on the March 14th we drop the vaccine passport but again it has nothing to do with the borders...

He's a resident of Monaco, but not a citizen. His citizenship is still in Serbia. But it looks like that will only matter if things tighten up again in France.

Even if the pandemic is over tomorrow Djokovic will still find new ways to get himself into trouble. :bye:
