It's hard not to think that the decision will be unpopular, since the consensus last January was about special treatment. He'll probably have to deal with some unpopular sentiment, initially. But as it just turns back into the tennis, he'll probably be fine.
Apparently Tiley met with Novak at the Laver Cup, Novak holds no bitterness what evolved this year at the AO, nor should he quite frankly.Tiley stressed that the pair spoke generally about Novak's visa situation.

I think it's politically expedient to stop fight with Djokovic and get it all off of the radar. But I am surprised that you can falsify your immigration application and still have it all be swept away like nothing. Do you think the rest of us would get away with that? Not in a heartbeat. As I said to @MargaretMcAleer above, I don't think the crowds will be especially forgiving, initially, but memories are short, and everyone wants to just drink a beer and watch tennis.
Kieren,

That is exactly the sentiment here in Australia at present...people are uspet that Novak is getting special treatment because he is a top tennis player and you and I would not get away with that? I understand their point of view, there are people wanting to get a new visa and to work here in Australia and they are still waiting for a visa after years of waiting?

People look to acquire status so the rules are bent a little to accomodate them! Why surprised? Fed's gotten away w/ murder I'm sure! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy:
Absolutely he has. I'm pretty sure that Gavin Rossdale sleeps with the fishes. As does that Bollywood actress.

Didn't Wimbledon 2019 prove to the world that Novak couldn't care less about how the crowd or fans response to him? Let them boo! I have a feeling he'll be cheered and welcomed back! The haters are just hoping the fans will be upset with his behavior and attitude! :thinking-face::astonished-face:

Oh, he cares. And we'll see how it goes in Oz. Personally, I think everyone will get over it. I just expect a rough start.

He's going to terrorize the tour like he did a few years ago; win all the early tournaments to show them who's boss! I can see an AO followed by 2 Masters wins already! I've been spoiled by his excellence! It shouldn't happen! Alcaraz joining the frey might change things, but we'll see! :thinking-face: :astonished-face:
A 36 year old with dodgy ped magic potions to dominate 2023 what fun :fearful-face:

Novak Djokovic talking about the news from Australia via TennisMajors,

"I was very happy to receive the news yesterday, it was a relief knowing what I and the people closet to me have been through this year with what happened in Australia. I could not receive better news".

Wow, last year everyone was saying how Djokovic should never go back to Russia after how they treated him like a criminal and that if he goes back then he has no dignity... He even tried to sue them and his family insulted Australia over and over... But now he is ready to throw his morals and values into the toilet and go back for a tennis tournament...:zippermouthface::yawningface::help:

I am not surprised he wants to go back to play in Australia, it is his most successful GS, he will be bidding for his 10th title next year,
I dont think he wants to remember what happened this year at the AO quite frankly :)

I am reading that President Biden has extended the COVID-19 Emergency until April 2023, meaning that Djokovic will not be able to play IW or Miami, can someone confirm that please?
All of the reliable information is that he has extended it through 11 Jan, to get us through the holidays, I guess, and the worst of the cold and flu season. I saw one article in a right-wing DC paper that said April of next year. That said, this is about protocols in the US. As I have said before, the US doesn't really care that much about foreign nationals and their ability to get into the US. There is essentially no public pressure that I can see to lift the requirement that foreigners be vaccinated to enter the US. So, none of this applies to Novak's situation. Once they get through all the other stuff they have to worry about, it might occur to them to change the vaccine requirement for non-resident aliens, but it is way down on the priority list, from what I can tell. It's basically not even on the radar.

The House passed this bill, but not the Senate. And then it must go to the President. It may pass, but it isn’t official yet with just the House passing it.

No kidding??? Yes, the first hurdle (Congress) in a bipartisan vote passed the bill to end the ban.

Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Spain, Australia, Japan and 92 other countries have lifted their bans. And the Biden administration allows thousands of unvaccinated to cross the southern border, but wants to keep their travel ban in place. You’re right. Maybe in 2025 Djokovic will be allowed to play Indian Wells and Miami.
