The win against Novak for the first time is a big, big step for Jannik going forward in his career
For the last couple of months he has improved in area's of his game, the final against Meddy in Vienna last over 3 hours, which was a tough battle to the end
This match also lasted over the 3 hour mark...well done Jannik!

Technically speaking, what’s the way forward from here? If Rune beats Sinner and Novak beats Hurkacz, Sinner might be out?

Novak and Holger have to win, but that might not be enough for either? Or only one of them?

Awesome - what a match. It felt like a Slam final, or at least late round, in terms of intensity and stakes.

I made the remark earlier this year that Sinner's relatively late blossoming is pretty similar to none other than Roger Federer's. He won his first Masters a year older, but his 2023 season (age 21-22) is somewhere between Roger's 2002 (age 20-21), and 2003 (age 21-22).

But in terms of Elo, Sinner's trajectory is very similar to Roger's at the same age. Hard to imagine Sinner continuing to rise like Roger did, but things are looking very good right now.

For Sinner, if he wins one set against Rune, he is in the SF...

Earlier in the week, Jannik said he wanted to play Novak because it would tell him where he is
"These are the matches I win or I learn"
1st win over Novak
Snaps Novak's 19 match win streak
8 match win streak for Sinner

Holy cow! Jannik Sinner has beaten the World No.1 player, World No.2 player AND World No.3 Player on a HC in the past couple of weeks!

I am excited, let's go, Forza!

I'm sorta glad Jannik finished this off! I wouldn't want him to be on the list to drop a match to Novak after having 4-6 MP's! The Italians were rewarded for their boorish behavior! It took me back to Rome Final in 1978; Borg playing Panatta! The crowd was unruly enough to actually taunt Borg by throwing Lira coins on court! The disrespect was mind-blowing at the time! Even McEnroe never allowed anything like that to occur during play against his #1 rival, Bjorn! :astonished-face: :face-with-head-bandage: :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

If there's a three-way tie, the tiebreaker is, in order until one is lower than the other two:

1. Highest % of sets won
2. Highest % of games won
3. Highest ranking at the start of the tournament

If two remain tied after one of those, even the first, then it is H2H.

Thanks brother! Seems unfair to go by ranking. If a lower ranked player ties the world number one, there’s a moral victory. H2H? That’s even more bizarre. I’d rather they choose by points won, or double faults-aces. Or who made the crowd cheer loudest. The old clap-o-metre. If that still leaves them level, give us a look at their women.

I wonder if it ever came down to the most extreme choice?
