tented, he is talking about how bad he finished in the USO 2018, then after to be almost 5 months out he played well in the AO but not enough well against Novak, then 5 days before Acapulco he got problems with his wrist, then he started playing not too good in clay season and very down mentality but after Barcelona he decided to change his mind trying to play better and more positive helping him to arrive at RG with more confidence same like at the USO 2019. Later he was talking about soccer...you know B-)

Rafa talks way too fast for my slow 'Spanish' thanks for the translation of the interview.

You should have watched it. It sure looked like real tennis. And the 3 sets took over 3 hours.
You are correct Moxie..3 hours is not a generic exho...Tsitsipus is very similar to Kyrgios in that he doesn’t care to loose to Rafa. Go mental edge win for Rafa regardless and should send a message to that next Gen upstart..

To add just a little more detail, he talked about how he always wants to feel that he's left his best out there, and when he's felt less than motivated, he even looks at videos on the internet of good moments in his career, good wins, and then he says, "Well, I've done it before, I can do it again." (I thought that was kind of fun to know that he looks at those videos, too.) During the clay season last year, as you translated, he was feeling down about his level and his motivation, so he thought long and hard about stopping, but decided to press on and try to let himself find his level and his motivation, which he did. Also mentions that he and Roger have an exhibition match in (Kuwait?) in which they will try to break the record for attendance? And yes, a lot of soccer. ;)

PS: @tented The interview is in Spanish, not Catalan.

Apparently Spain's New Year's tradition is to eat 12 grapes at Midnight - a ritual set to bring good luck for the next 365 days.

Rafa said the Spainsh team had welcomed 2020 with a barbecue and had a boat ride down the Swan River, before finishing the night off in their hotel room.

"We are full of luck, since we all celebrated with grapes."

It is! Spain's "Times Square" is Madrid's Puerta del Sol, and you eat one grape for each gong of the clock at midnight. Penelope Cruz says the secret is to snag all of the smallest grapes first, as you have to gobble them quickly. I like to cheat and buy champagne grapes. :)

Well, anyway we can see that Rafa has a very good balance into te water too :good:
Actually, what I think it shows is something we know, which is that, beyond the talent, Spanish players like to hang out together, which makes them a very unified team. Also, that the water there looks AMAZING!

This seems as good a place to share this as anywhere. I had a dream last night...about Rafa! I've never had a dream about a tennis player before. I was watching a match, courtside - no details or specifics. Rafa was sitting there watching. We watched the match together, occasionally chatted. At first he was a bit wary, but then warmed up and was friendlyl. I remember thinking that I was surprised at how young he looked...but then realized that I'm more than a decade older than him. LOL.

A pretty random dream, but thought Rafa fans might appreciate it!

Happy New Year, Dude! A shrink would probably tell you that you're working out a conflict, in a good way. A Rafa fan would tell you that Nadal is going to win the AO, and you're OK with it. :smooch:

Hey, before the ATP Cup, I was predicting Rafa to win the AO, but after Novak spanked him, I'm not so sure...
