See, if you were more mature like Nadal you wouldn’t have let my post bother you. :bye:
If you were more like Nadal, you wouldn't spend so much time extolling his praises. Not his thing. I'm pretty sure he'd be embarrassed by you. If you want to pretend to know who he is and what he's like, you'd stop making him out to be a saint. He'd hate that, I'm pretty sure. Toni spent great effort keeping his feet on the ground. You don't honor them with your over-selling him. His game and his persona sells itself.

Which is precisely why I think the pressure is now greater. It’s not something far in the future, it’s within his grasp when he steps onto the court.

Serena has certainly felt the pressure trying to tie Margaret Court.

No worries, we agree to disagree.

I am actually with AP on this one. While I do think Nadal will feel the pressure of tying and maybe surpassing Federer's slam count, I think Nadal will get the job once the moment comes to him.

The difference between Nadal and Serena is while both Nadal and Serena are mentally tough players (and Serena is probably the greatest female tennis player of all time), Nadal is more suited mentally with these type of situations. Just look at his career: from 2005 to 2009: he was trying his very best to catch Federer's number 1 ranking and win more slams outside of RG. Then from 2011 into right now, he is fighting very hard against Federer and Djokovic to win slams both in RG and the other three slams. I mean that takes a lot of mental strength just to sustain that type of consistency especially (I do not want to type this next statement) his own body failed him a lot of times (part of it is own fault and part of it is bad luck).

So if Nadal does not tie or surpass Federer's count, it is because his body could not go much farther and/or the next gen has gotten THAT much better to the point in which they consistently beat him at slams. I think his mindset will stay as long his body takes him. I think that will be enough to finish 1st in the slam "race."

I hope Federer takes the pressure off Ralph in "tying the record" at RG, by winning AO'20.

I’m not saying Rafa is not going to do it, (tie/surpass Methuselah) I just don’t think it’s an automatic easier task at this point because he’s so close. It’s not a matter of questioning his mental strength/resolve.

The impression I get from others is that the pressure may be less because he is almost there. All I’m saying is the pressure is pressing on his shoulders exponentially more, thus if he does do it this year it’s even more impressive.

For the record, I think Rafa will be competitive in all the Majors in 2020. He was a whisker from perhaps winning Wimbledon in ‘18 if he had gotten past Novak, made the SF this year; and Rafa has made the AO finals 2 out of the last 3 years. He’s the # 1 player in the rankings and doesn’t have a losing record against any of the new Gen. if his body holds up, can’t see his motivation being less for 2020.

Personally I’m hoping a W or USO could complement a FO title, but again you’ve got Theim ( I’m picking for the FO) and company who are young enough that they are not going away, like Lost Gen did.

Normally I'd agree but they pay a hefty enough sum to the winner at Abu Dhabi as far as I recall which is obviously a bigger deal to Tsitsipas than Nadal at this stage. The top guys are greedy and rightly so.

Yeah the Abu Dhabi exhibition has always had a "legit" feel to it (it's been happening for a decade) as players treat it as preparation more so than just a fun exhibition. Notice there's never any smiling around and goofing around during points. Even players' body language is somewhat competitive. Not saying it's a big deal or anything but they play seriously.

If the atp went back in time for Laver Cup to credit the matches into the official h2h then they should do it here too.
