That is ominous for the rest of the tour. Rafa is on a mission.

You are becoming quite the merchant of doom. I'm not expecting Rafa to suddenly become a consistently good server. Rafa's chances off clay are completely dependent on Novak's form as in he needs Novak to disappear again otherwise he is going to be limited to clay at this point and hopefully someone knocks him off there and sends his career into a nosedive like the good years of 2015 and 2016. And who knows if Zverev and another youngling becomes relevant this year, that'd make life a lot harder for the top 3.

Less so Rafa than Roger, though, really, who hadn't beaten him at a Major since 2012.

I was trying to be humorous.:) Rafa has tweaked his serve a few times before, but as we know, his serve is not that good.

Federer fans all over the Nadal thread with their hate even when their precious player is still playing. I can't begin to imagine what will happen when Federer actually retires, his fans will be posting 24 hour per day in the Nadal thread trying to put him down as they watch Roger's records fall one after the other. :help:

Even if Federer's slam count is surpassed in the not too distant future, the guy has truckloads of records that will not fall anytime soon. Dream on.

The unluckiest player of all-time, should have 30 slams and 200 titles by now.

Get well soon Rafa! :smooch:

Will he sit out AO to help him prepare for RG?
I'm sure he'll play if he can. Long time until RG, with plenty of lesser things he can skip to prepare. I'm bummed he has to sit out Brisbane, though. I had a bad feeling yesterday when he wasn't on the schedule to play. :(

Well, since he is sitting out Brisbane, I am now condoning him skipping the 3/4th match at Mudabala.

Nad is switching to the "minimal schedule": the Fed-style. I think the minor "injuries" that the young Nad would not even bother with and played through most of them, now prove more and more problematic in ageing body. Longer healing & longer rehabilitation. We will start seeing more and more of those. But if he manages them well, he may be able to play on his high level for few more years, especially if he learns from Fed.

In the end, he may skip everything except couple M1000 on clay and RG and still be in top 4 based on such contrived clay-only schedule. I would not be surprised if he was doing just that for the rest of his career. He may still publicly say that he wants to play but docs don't allow him like in case of this Brisbane but that's only a disguise. Or if he's indeed eager to play as he's saying but pulled off only because docs scared him, maybe he needs to hire these docs to plan his schedule, because to me it's clear his body is unable to withstand full schedule or even reduced schedule anymore.

Reminds me of Trump wanting to testify, but his lawyers preventing him from doing so. :D

I admit I teased Nad fans a bit with my post but I didn't expect you GSM to chime into that tune. I actually wish Nad well while suggesting he improves his scheduling (i.e. caring for his precious body), which he has not been doing well in the past.
Your t-joke is fun but objectively Nad does not deserve to be joked like that. Nad is an intelligent, grown up man with good moral principles; not a spoiled six y old child.

Nadal is the most careful about his body tbh(among the top guys). He has taken multiple long breaks which has kept him fresh and given his career longevity

I've read that Nadal is right-wing(in his country politics)

That is unlikely, as Spain has a very small "right-wing" having been so many years under Fascism. He has spoken about the issue of Catalan independence...he's not for it. That's not a right-wing position, if though "conservative" by definition, (as in 'conserving the nation'). BTW, he has said publicly that he doesn't care for Trump.

Yeah it was related to the Catalan independence.

Awesome

Then you need to understand that not being for Catalan independence isn't a right-wing position. It doesn't really split up that way. In fact, some people who favor independence do so because Catalonia is a rich state and they want to keep their wealth, therefore a conservative impetus. Rafa himself says he feels both very close to the Catalonia people (his local language is a form of Catalan,) and that he feels very Spanish. So he has empathy with both sides. Not to get too deep in the weeds, but the Balearic Islands, which includes Mallorca, is also one of the more liberal regions in Spain. I would also note that his uncle, Toni, is unmarried, but with a partner for decades and with children. Rafa himself is essentially in a common-law marriage. Toni has declared himself an atheist, Nadal an agnostic. These are not right-wing indicators.
