For Goodness sake, stating opposition for Catalan independence isn’t exactly Right Wing ultra conservative position in Spain.

Anyways Fed fans must be incredibly bored if all they want to do is troll the Nadal thread for giggles.
Then again, it’s a backhanded compliment because despite their protestations, they still consider him a threat. Whatever, while they may clutch their pearls but he was only a couple of service breaks of winning it in 2017.

Rafa is older, like all mature ( hell even some young players)athletes his physical state is a work in progress, with tweaking to try to avoid more injuries.

Again, other than some Federer fans going for their smelling salts when he withdraws from a tourney or exhibition ( obviously they “care” so much) Nadal is going to handle his schedule as his team sets fit for his current physical state.

Why not work on his serve, shows he’s willing to still explore and try to tweak his game even at his age.

Then you need to understand that not being for Catalan independence isn't a right-wing position. It doesn't really split up that way. In fact, some people who favor independence do so because Catalonia is a rich state and they want to keep their wealth, therefore a conservative impetus. Rafa himself says he feels both very close to the Catalonia people (his local language is a form of Catalan,) and that he feels very Spanish. So he has empathy with both sides. Not to get too deep in the weeds, but the Balearic Islands, which includes Mallorca, is also one of the more liberal regions in Spain. I would also note that his uncle, Toni, is unmarried, but with a partner for decades and with children. Rafa himself is essentially in a common-law marriage. Toni has declared himself an atheist, Nadal an agnostic. These are not right-wing indicators.

...and he's scared of the dark and terrified of dogs. Just thought I'd complete the bio :) Not sure if that impacts his perceived political affiliations in any way.

Being scared of the dark is just weird but can't trust anyone who doesn't like dogs :)

You've mentioned this before. It doesn't have anything to do with his politics, but I guess it takes some of the "scary" out of Nadal for the Federer fans. I guess it helps when he seems a bit less "macho," eh? ;)

Let's face it, Nadal cops to not liking to sleep in the dark when he's alone, and being wary of dogs. (Though "terrified" seems over-stating it, @britbox.) Our champion has his quirks, that is clear. Better to embrace than deny, and also much more amusing to note how some of the Federer fans need to hold onto them as frailties. Britbox has mentioned this more than a couple of times. The topic of conversation atm was Rafa's politics, and he had to shoehorn in sidebar idiocyncrasies. I'm sure it's because it shrivels the raisins just a bit less to know that, so they embrace it. Rafa's alpha dominance over Roger is so disturbing that they pick at him where they can. Same reason Front inserts gay insinuations when he gets a chance, though that just exposes his own homophobia. (On display regularly.) It makes me laugh how pathetic they are, clutching at the foibles off-court, because the on-court is so formidable. :yesyes: :lulz2:

Surely that doesn't fit the profile, but I recognize that you are here just to take the piss out of such a puny argument. ;)

That coupled with multiple biting of Coupe des Mousquetaires is sure to make him wear dentures by the time he retires. :p

Oh, and lots of other Major trophies. Luckily, he doesn't bite them that hard. A lot of you Feddies crossing over here to the Nadal fans thread to make as little of him as you can. Fool's errand. :smooch:

It's much better don't put too much attention what the Federer's fans say, they are too much traumatized :cuckoo::wacko:

Well, we do have a Pune thread, and a puny argument....
in fact, not just one. One way or another, pardon the pun.
Should've kept out instead, (not a fan, that's what I meant)
and all pundits are gone... pundits, pun?, hey! another one!!!

(with my compliments to our word play lover @Horsa and my good ol' friend @Moxie)

I love your poem & all your word play.
I hope you both have a wonderful day.
I was laughing at what you had to say.
I think that your poem was very punny.
I also found it extremely funny.

Rafa lost to Nicky K in Fast4, but says he's feeling good. Read here.

Not sure what the colour of those white trousers were on the other side. Rafa's legendary fear of dogs is well known in tennis circles. There is an unsubstantiated rumour going around that his capitulation in the AO 2017 final was sparked by somebody in the crowd making a barking noise in the fifth set.

Apparently you're right, since they can't let it go.

Obviously you enjoy hammering on this, but the more significant and interesting phobia in tennis has been Roger's long-term fear of his Alpha-Dog Rafa. That's why you look for chinks in the armor. It takes a man secure in his masculinity to admit to odd foibles. B-)

Nadal looks so fresh in this tournament (AO) The one concern coming in was his movement, but it’s impressive so far. I do think that the FH looks better than it’s looked for awhile though he can still get tentative at times.

despite his lack of Matchplay , so far he hasn’t looked that rusty at all.
