Hope Kei will be allright for RG. And that he will be in Rafas quarter.

Be careful what you wish for. He could be fully healthy and end up in Novak's QF just to spite you.

I know I'll rattle some cages, but Rafa lucked out.

I really don't know who could disagree with that. I'll be the first to put an asterisk on this one.

I wouldn't be overly concerned if he's in Rafa's quarter, to be honest...

Question to our etiquette police: Is it OK to say Nishikori's injury impacted proceedings or will this be the AO final all over again (only in reverse)?

You clearly didnt see the first set and a half. I have never seen Nadal been schooled like that before.

I made a reference to the AO final a page or two ago, so it's already out there.

Just woke up. Looks like what a lot of us predicted actually happened. Nishikori is just too fragile to march through a full season. Disappointing.

Nishikori had my boy's number throughout, so yes his injury impacted proceedings greatly.

Then you need to see some more of his matches. '07 Paris final, for example. '08 Miami final.

So anyway, in all seriousness, now that Nadal got his clay title, I wonder whether we'll see (significant) improvement in Rome. He still looks shaky as hell, which I thought would be the case (but definitely didn't see the match being such a struggle), but winning has a way of making things easier.

Unfortunately, and I'm not saying that to be pessimistic, I think there are glaring issues in Rafa's game at the moment that aren't strictly confidence related. He needs to start rectifying them ASAP. Under normal circumstances, we'd be talking about how below par he looked all tournament long in Madrid, and yet, we're not saying that (with the exception of his performance in the final) because it's a marginal improvement from his atrocious Monte Carlo and Barcelona form.

correct. It's really a testament to his fight that he was able to play 2 sets and play at the highest level through a set and half.

I didn't see it, but I've seen Rafa outplayed before. I still wouldn't worry about Kei in Paris. It is a huge pity though, what happened to him today, because he's definitely heading in the right direction...

Why would that rattle cages?

The difference is that Rafa was losing when the back tightened up, and Kei was 2 games from a straightset victory

Hmm, yes but not on clay.
