It won't be anyone. It'll be Alex or Domi.
Logically yes, but these have not been the most convincing dudes.
I would not be surprised if Isner takes it.

Isner? On a HC I would say yes. But he doesn't move all that well on the clay. Look what he had to do to win vs Pablo.

Madrid is closer to HC.

Madrid is not a typical clay court, plays faster . That is why Roger also was more successful on it.

Omg how fast did they make the courts this year? Their turning it in to a hard court event seems the only way players can beat goat of clay nadal.

Isner winning one MS is enough torture for a year.

He makes his job so much harder than it needs to be when playing "also rans," qualifiers, WC, and "never weres" going to ultimate set almost every time; not to mention in a tie-breaker! Of course the epitome of Isner fans frustration has to be his marathon @ 2010 Wimbledon against Mahut winning in 11 hours over 3 days! He had countless chances to end it sooner, but allowed that 5th set to go on and on and on hitting a number that'll NEVER be approached again; 70-68! He'll be in a wheelchair soon enough!  :help:

Denis beats Edmund. Excellent result. His debut on clay was a bit shaky this season, but he gets better every event. Quick learner.
Good prospects, considering he is the youngest in the top 100 and already knocking on the top 30 door

Everything happens for a reason and this loss is the best thing could happen to Rafa. After the DC plus Montecarlo and Barcelona to reach and win Madrid and later Roma I don’t think he would have done well in RG which is his goal. Now he has a little more time to rest and to play better in Roma. After to watch the match of yesterday and how bad he played (he didn’t play too much better vs Monfils) I knew he could lose anytime

So Federer is back at #1 on Monday following Thiem's won over Nadal. Is that through to Halle or Wimbledon?

The last time Thiem defeated Rafa, Sasha won the event. Similar thing might happen here too.

Proud of Shapo learning to play in dirt.

Nope. Depends on what happens in Rome. If Rafa wins Rome, he will be back at #1 (as he only reached QF there last year being eliminated by, you guessed it, Thiem).

If he does not win Rome (anything less would not cut it), Roger will remain #1 at least till the beginning of Halle.
