Margaret, Thiem does wear out his opponents..check the stats of his opponents survive an encounter against Dominic ..they usually loose the next match.. unless that opponent is named Nadal
I am not a Thiem fan...so I will pass ....remind me again what major clay tournament he has won:)

I didn't see Berretti d. Fognini, but I noticed that they put Layhani in the chair...brought out the big gun in case Fabio got out of line. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

A lot going on at 5am my time tomorrow. Medvedev makes his clay debut v. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Schwartzman looks for revenge against Karatsev. (He's specifically said he wants revenge for the loss at the AO.) Late in the day it's Tsitsipas trying to save the world from Benoit Paire. Big day tomorrow, plus I get my first vaccination.

Congratulations on getting your shot. I got my Pfizer's vaccine vaccination shot on February 27th and 2nd shot on April 5th. Send me a PM if you have any questions but I know you have done your diligence. God bless

Please I think you all missed what Theim said about Rafa last year at RG....he is the most arrogant player just for starters.
His comments came unstuck big time by the way.

Sometimes I have the feeling he has too much respect for Nadal and Djokovic, it inhibits him, espacially in slams.
No I disagree..He knows if he stays healthy he is the hier apparent Thiem has been very smart about his career and he should capture more slams than Murray and Stan..

Gee I am still waiting for what Theim has accomplished on clay?....................how can he be a 'hierophant' when to date he has not won a major clay tournament.

Rafa apparently asked for a day match tomorrow because the football is on later:) he has his priorities correct :)

Well, I wish he had called me and told me that, because I could have scheduled by vaccine for later.

As to Thiem, your comment about Thiem doesn't go completely astray. (I don't know what a "hierophant" is, though.) He has made 2 finals at RG, and beaten Djokovic there twice, but it might amuse (or bemuse) people to remember that Zverev has more big titles on clay than Thiem does. Actually, now so does Tsitsipas. He does have a lot of smaller clay titles, though. But just because he's been tipped to be the "next best thing on clay" doesn't mean he will be. I think it's possible that he's missed his moment. There are a lot of guys coming up on clay.

People have been saying 'he is the next best thing on clay' for sometime now? okay we will never see another Rafa, well not in my life time.,maybe at times we use Rafa as the barometer on clay, which is unfair,I guess. To me I have been impressed with Tsitsipas on clay, though I am not saying 'he is the next big thing on clay' either.Until a player is consistent on clay and winning tournaments, then I will take notice.
BTW I know the results of Theim on clay I was just being facetious when asking what clay tournaments of note has he won:)

While records are made to be broken, there may well never be another Rafa Nadal on clay, so there is that. Mostly every one is just wondering who the decent competition is. Current hot hand is Tsitsipas. And maybe Thiem is he comes back to form. I know Front has a lot of hope for Medvedev on clay, and he could come good on it, eventually.

Wondering what it was that Thiem said about Rafa at RG 2020. I tried googling but didn't come up with anything.

Theim said he would keep Federer's GS total safe at RG? meaning Rafa would not win and tie with Federer.Be careful what you wish for Dominic.
Dominic has also said "Rafa dosent give you anything at RG" lol! Rafa is not about to give anyone anything at RG.

I've found that quote now. Well, it's a way of saying he'd try to win RG. I don't have a lot of problem with that. And he's not wrong to say that Rafa doesn't give you anything at RG. Or even in Barcelona. Ask Tsitsipas. LOL

It is the way Theim says things quite frankly,I have heard him live and I am not the only one who thinks he is arrogant.Of course Rafa does not give you anything at RG,you have to earn it period.
Lets face it Dominic only won USO because Sasha who had MPs is a choker and a head case.,should have beaten him in straight sets

Everyone isn't the choir boys like Roger and Rafa has been to all of their FANs. McEnroe was a tennis genius whose antics made him hard to root for. Sampras was a brilliant competitor who once had to make an ESPN commercial disguised as the famous San Diego chicken mascot to show the world that he could display some sort of an outgoing personality. Safin was the ultimate crazy Russian who had almost as much natural tennis gifts as any player whom EVER held a racket while fighting his bad boy demons.

I choose players by the way they compete. Nuff Said.
